Half.com Sucks

So I'm purchasing textbooks from Half.com. It gives me two options for shipping, Media Mail and "Expedited Shipping." I'm thinking, I've shipped stuff Media Mail before, it's not 2-3 day like Priority, more like 5-7 day. Which is what I need.

Today I get a confirmation from one of the sellers and it says the package should arrive anytime from Sept 16th to October 25th

Since when does Media Mail take 30 BUSINESS days? I need these books in two weeks, not a 6 weeks from now. I'm located in middle of California, someone is shipping it from the same town, another is shipping it from Los Angeles and another from Washington (the state, not DC). Should I expect it to really take 30 business days? I've already contacted two of the sellers (I think the one in the same town attends the same university) and said I'd pay the extra $5 for Priority if necessary.

But is it necessary? I mean, these books are less than a couple of pounds.

I've shipped stuff to Europe and gotten it in less than two weeks and only paid $8 USD. I am paying $3.25 on all of them. They had an "Expedite" option for $2 more. But didn't think I needed it. I wonder if I can change it.

I don't know. I bought them and they only gave two shipping options. The base and then ~$2 per item more to expedite it. :(

I paid via CC at once, I guess Half then pays the sellers?

Half.com pays their sellers every 15 days. It takes 5-7 days to get your books or quicker.

Wait, what? Shouldn't the seller see that I have paid and ship it to me?

The seller sees that someone wants to buy their book. They have a couple of days to confirm that they still want to sell it. Once they confirm this, they have 1 day to ship. No payment goes through as of yet.

Uhhh. Wednesday purchase. 1 ships out on Friday. 2nd one ships out on Saturday. No e-mail for the 3rd one or maybe I never saw it. Next Saturday (10 days later) I come home from school and I get 2 books in the mail. Apparently the last book arrived on Monday. NO problem.

Hi, are you new to the intarweb?!?

Half.com does not suck. Half.com is awesome. I saved hundreds of dollars per term on textbooks when I was in college by using AddAll.com to search for books, and 9 times out of 10, Half.com had the best price.

But like any marketplace, buy from sellers who have a good rating and a good reputation. If your particular experience sucks, that is due to the seller you dealt with, not the marketplace.

That's refreshing. I bought from one person with an 800+ rating another had like 180 or something. The other guy had 7.

I'm just surprised they say that Media Mail should be 30 days.

Ok, ordered on last Sunday, and the book just came today. It was a $7.25 shipped for a $90 Psychology book. I thought to myself, "Like New," how bad could it be? The package arrived in so much tape I wonder who would be so crazy as to steal it. After 5 minutes of vigurous tape cutting, I took out my Psychology book. BRAND NEW. Wow... :Q

Anyways, I'm ordering from Half.com again, and recommended it to all my friends and family who are in the process of buying books. :)

I still haven't received any of the books yet. It's been 8 days since they've all said they have shipped. If there not here by Friday, I'll be writing some nasty emails. Cause I really need these books soon.

Okay, one guy is shipping the book from the SAME CITY I am located in.

I checked USPS for each of their zip-codes, they said that delivery time is 5 days.

Buy your books new, be sure not to screw them up. When your used ones come in return the new ones.

Oh, and the expedited button is there for a reason.
