Everytime I get a haircut I tell my barber "medium cut - not too short". He ends up cutting it pretty short, i.e. can't comb my hair. Whats the term to use to get a cut where it still looks like I haven't got a haircut. And what do these numbers mean? i.e. number 2 cut etc etc

ask for a trim, and don't go to a barber... if they don't take off enough then ask for a few more centimeters.

the numbers refer to the length of guard used on the electric trimmers, higher the number the longer the guard

thanks. I sometimes ask for a trim, but they still cut it too short, is there anything else I should say? Does higher number mean more hair is cut or less?

Less. Fucking Christ, you need to go back to your mom's customer service desk and see about getting your logic unit repaired.

Simple solution, no barber. Or take a photo of your hair at the desired length and take it in. Also if they say they are going to use clippers then say no and tell them in finger length.

Each numbered increment is 1/8 of an inch longer. Get a cut you like, ask what number they used and remember it. If you don't know exactly what you want then it's your fault, not the barbers (serious fuckups aside).

And find a real barber shop and get to know the guys. Don't go to Supercuts or whatever.
