Haircut, how much do you tip

I get my hair cut in a korean grocery store (Lotte) cause that's the cheapest place I can find around here. So I tip $2 for a $10 cut.

My GF is a hairdresser. They make a base pay, like $50 a day + tips and a % of product sales(Every salon is different, but they almost all rely heavily on tips). So yes, they rely on tips so all you jags not tipping or tipping a buck are assholes.

Further, if you are a repeat no-tipper they try to fuck your hair up so you quit coming to them and wasting their time.

Varies shop to shop, but at many the barber or stylist pays a monthly booth rental fee, and sometimes a portion of what they make daily. Many don't get any sort of base pay, it's whatever they make from cutting hair. My old barber charges $9 and can do about 3 an hour but is never that busy constantly. So after he pays for his booth for the month which is $500 he's not making that much money really. Without tips he would be making around minimum wage, probably less. I use to go to a fancy salon and the booth rental was something crazy like $1,200 a month. They charged a lot more because they did coloring & extentions etc. But shit you'd have to make a killing to stay a float there.

That's exactly right and it's why I have no problem paying more for mine. She's very good and is also a great person, so I have no problem giving the bit extra if it helps her out at all. I only go once every six weeks or so, so it's not that big of an expense.

What they fail to understand is if everyone who made shit for money took their career advice we'd have next to no barbers or people working at places like Taco Bell, Mcdonalds and even Costco. My friend was commenting on how he couldn't believe the bag boy at the golf course expected a tip from him even though he was getting paid to do his job. And if he didn't like his pay he should go get a real "job" I said if he got a real job who would carry your clubs? He got a frown on his face and told me that wasn't the point. lol

I've paid $20/cut for the last 8 years or so. the less they charge me, the bigger the tip they get.

the old place that I went to for 4 years charged me $16, so I gave her a $4 tip... my current guy charges me $8, so he gets a $12 tip.

Usually when it's $30 I’ll lay down $40 and take back whatever I need if she'll give me quarters. Usually they refuse to give quarters. Dang quarters are hard to get, and I need 'em to feed the stupid parking meters they have up north in The City and down south in LA.
Tip may end up around &7-8 bones, I don’t really pay attention to that, except I like helping her with a big tip, but for me personally, how many quarters I can get back? That’s the important thing. Even at my bank it’s hard to get quarters.

Shit son, they don't have the parking meters you print shit off with in LA? I know in Portland and Seattle just about anywhere you gotta go up to the machine to pay and then slap that sucker it prints out on the inside of your car. It takes credit/debit and change.

$19 hair cut with a $4 dollar tip. 20% rounded up to an even figure. I always show up with my hair washed so she only has to wet it. Cut takes 20 minutes - tops.

At Christmas I throw her an additonal $20 on top of her normal tip.

People in this business are earning a very good wage. I see no need to tip 50% as some are doing.

When you walk in, do they say, here come's mr. cheap. I pay $13 and tip $7 everytime, the barber knows me by name and does a great job every time.
