For a brief instant, you do feel special.
But then you see through it. Almost every single time I get my hair cut, the stylists, other employees, and sometimes patrons compliment me on my appearance, and hit on me often. Mind you, I'll go two months between cuts (and have fast growing hair) so I look a lot different by the end to unfamiliar eyes. Suggestive compliments are flattering, but I think they're doing at least some of it because they're told to so they can generate more business. Any comments on that? The following example is from my second to last haircut, my latest haircut (yesterday) is actually even more illustrative, but I'll try to keep this somewhat short:
1. I was late for my appointment and was greeted by my usual stylist, Sydney, who gave me the usual grief about waiting so long in between cuts. We did the usual wash/sit down/start cutting thing and started chatting. An off-duty stylist (of about 18 or 19 years) who I had never met moves a chair over, faces it towards me, sits down and starts eating her lunch while watching me get my hair cut. Another employee came over and talked to Sydney and made some comments about "how good I'll look." The off-duty girl sat through the entire cut, and when it was finished I stood up and heard a round of "ooh that looks great!"'s and "very nice!"'s from various people. As I walked to the front desk, I looked at the girl sitting in the chair and asked "and what do you think?" She replied emphatically with "REALLY good!" and shot me an unmistakeable "I want to lick you" smile (or sloppy grin?).
I can't be the only one this happens to. I've 'tested' this by going to different salons and they all produce the same result. Do you guys get the same treatment?
