Hail Damage

So, the storms have just finished rolling through the northern Twin Cities area of Minnesota, and my mom's truck has some damage. Hail damage to be more precise. There are dents on the roof, the passenger side, and the hood. The hood has over 30 dents, the passenger side has about 20, and the roof has over 20. I'll upload some pictures tomorrow.

Does anybody know how any approximate cost to fix dents that are in creases and along curves? We have full insurance on the vehicle (2000 Ford Expedition), and I am just wondering what cost the insurance company would be eating.

3 billion dollars.

Really, it's so hard to estimate body damage without, 1.) seeing the pics, and 2.) knowing what comparable prices are around your area.

From the price of the vehicle...and the amount of damage you're saying...it may actually end up getting totaled. I'd say they'd replace the roof, and any removable fender skins but for the roof....yeah....

I'm going to go $5 on totaled.

Pics would help much. obviously... I am from the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities and our new steel siding just took a beating. Glad I'm not from my excellent compatriot Rapids cause they were hit real hard.

Years ago, my wife's car was dented by hail and ended up looking like a golf ball. The insurance company gave us $3000 to spend as we see fit and we never had the little micro dents pulled out.

Larger dents should be easier to pop out.

hoping you aren't using ball peen hammer and then wanting a color change on the repaint.

If you want to fix it without insurance, try heating it up and running dry ice across it, then try to push it up from behind. For anything you can't push up from behind, call insurance.

try paintless dent removal...then head in to a body shop.

There was reports of 2+ inch hail. It is my parents vehicle, and we're gonig though insurance for it. My car took simmilar damage, but it is a 800 dollar junker, so I don't care too much about it.

Yup, they all work now. No idea on what it would cost to fix the dents, though.

Ok, after looking at those pics, my opinion has changed.

Those dents can easily be fixed back to perfections from a PDR-specialist (paintless dent removal). Might cost you a bit but it'll be a heck of a lot cheaper than a body-shop and you won't need a bunch of plastic filler on your car.

That's what my wife's car looked like. If they give you money, I'd say to just keep it; the dents don't affect the functionality of your vehicle at all and won't affect the looks all that much.

Ok, after looking at those pics, my opinion has changed.

Those dents can easily be fixed back to perfections from a PDR-specialist (paintless dent removal). Might cost you a bit but it'll be a heck of a lot cheaper than a body-shop and you won't need a bunch of plastic filler on your car.

I agree about the PDR. We had baseball-sized hail a couple of years ago, and the hood on my Mazda Tribute actually had to be replaced. They tried the PDR, but it wouldn't get the dents out. The dents were about the size of half an orange, or 5+ times the size of the OP's. They used PDR on all the dents other than the hood, and those dents were about the size of the OP's. I think it was just over $3,000 to get everything fixed, but most of that was replacing the hood and getting it painted. I think it would've been around $1,200 if the PDR had worked.
