The intro is HILARIOUS. It's actually a continuation from the movie!

When Bart is boarding through the town, the town is in rubbles with demolished buildings and the broken pieces of the huge suction glass. And during the couch-run gag, you see SPIDER PIG sitting on it. Homer cuddles him and says, "my summer love~"

Good stuff.

I've been bashing Simpsons quality lately, but I'm taking it back now. After seeing quite a few episodes from the past few seasons in syndication, I realized that they were pretty good. Nice to see a new season kick off:).

Oh, and King of the Hill is also on afterwards. Can't wait. Last season seemed to start late and end abruptly though.

Season 10-17ish has been The Simpsons' darkest hour....

So I decided to give this episode a try and turned it on and it sucked.

Stephen Colbert special guest voice plus Duff Man cameo made this a worthwhile episode for me. Lionel Richie wasn't bad either.

That's what I've been saying for years, but it just "clicked" with me recently. I'm liking these "dark" sasons a lot now. Obviously they are crap compared to the first few seasons though.

4 months and a movie and they're still not funny.

the great episode of family guy half an hour afterward just drove the point home.

I watched Simpsons because I saw this thread and really wish I hadn't. It was the same old suck (then again, I didn't see the Simpsons Movie).

Colbert: "I'm not very good. I went to the Harvard of the South."

Homer: "Duke? That's good."

Colbert: "Not Duke."

Homer: "Vanderbilt?"

Colbert: "A little bit further south .... don't make me say it."

Better not have been Emory :p

It started off strong, but tailed off towards the end.

And I wouldn't say 10-17 are the darkest hour. I actually really enjoyed 10-12. I'd say it started really slacking in season 13...but, with the newer episodes, they don't have "shock" value but they tend to get funnier when you see them again. I've noticed that a new episode I didn't like, I will like when I see the rerun in syndication.
