Yeah, it really depends on the driver. The ones that don't normally run the route or always floating from one route to another, don't really care and will try anything to pawn work off to the normal guy returning the next day.

I can't tell you how many times I freaked when I came home after seeing "Package Delievered", only to find no package at my doors (side or front).

Then, after searching around the back, I'd find that the UPS driver had hidden the package somewhere (under the grill, under the patio table, etc) to help keep anyone else from messing with it. Thanks creative UPS driver!

Although one time, they put the box (a large sized one, at that) "behind", and I use that term loosely, some rakes and shovels leaned up on the side of the house. Imagine a 24"x24"x24" box with two rakes and a shovel leaning over the top of it...yeah, that's hidden well 😀

Man, my UPS driver is awesome. I live right across from campus, and I see him all the time. If I order concert tickets or something and I'm in class, he'll find me on campus and let me sign there. He's pretty cool. (And he's been delivering car parts for the past 2 weeks. Today he's got two leaf springs to drop off. He's gonna hate me 😛 )

I can't remember the last time UPS actually attempted to deliver a package to my house, I've had to go pick them up at the distribution facility every time since I've moved in here. Now I just send my packages to work, so much easier 🙂

FedEx has pulled this nonsense on me, too. I work from home and my office has a view overlooking our entire front yard and street. I miss nothing, including but not limited to THE DAMN DOORBELL. I order stuff from Amazon overnight (Prime member) and I was constantly getting these stupid exceptions. After a few weeks of this I called up FedEx. On the day I called, they actually had the driver come back to my house to deliver the package. When he showed up, I asked him if this was his usual route, to which he replied in the affirmative. I explained that this seems to happen rather frequently, but he played dumb. I told him that I'm home every day, all week long, every week. I'll call FedEx each and every time there's a missed delivery from this point forward.

He just shrugged his shoulders and said "good luck", but I haven't had an exception since.

Last Friday I was on the phone with Verizon telling them to issue an RMA on a DSL modem that was DOA. I was told it would arrive on Saturday from UPS. On Monday I called Verizon to get the status of the RMA and found out it hadn't arrived yet. The VZ rep gave me the UPS tracking number.

It had been shipped UPS Next Day Air Saver 😕

I think sometimes Fedex will load packages due the next day, just in case there is time leftover to deliver it. If they are running behind, they can then skip the early deliveries and just finish the ones that need to be delivered that day.

Hell, I bet a lot of them do so without even driving near the house (unless they have some sort of GPS tracking to keep them honest).

true that, i got a case from newegg yesterday, the driver just drove right past my home, I had to chase him down 1 block to pick it up from him, and the case was stored right by the truck door, guess he just didnt want to carry and deliver it

They do this at my house every freaking time. My office is at the back of the house so after I get up, walk to the door and open it the driver is usually cranking up his truck and I have to scream at him to get his attention. I've tried shouting but he pretends that the 15 feet between my door and his truck is some impassable distance for sound to cross at normal volume levels.
