That's just dumb. I like the replies on the article though; the guy who compared them to the assholes at the movies with the laserpointer is right on. It's juvenile to annoy someone else for entertainment, especially if that person has done absolutely nothing to you. Gizmodo seems to be a bunch of hypocritical douchebags. Fuck them.

Heh...

Hopefully at next years CES they will have learned to cover up their IR ports.

How is this much different from someone hacking gizmodo's site so they don't earn their ad revenue?

That's my take on it. It's not cool to interfere with someone's work like that.

yea i agree, i use mine to mess with Best Buy and CC sales people

You agree that what you do sucks?

As a former retail sales person, if I caught someone doing that in the middle of my presentation I'd involve you in my sale and public humiliation would ensue...

Just to point out how much of an asshole move that is to do on a commission sales floor... a TV sale could be worth as much as $400 to that sales person. If they are on commission you can figure that video pays about 5 points. Say the TV in question is $3k and your asshole "prank" costs him the sale. That's $150. Then there is money lost on the back end of the deal because most manufaturers pay out spiffs for selling their TVs. A 50" flat panel usually pays out $100-$200. Then there are instore bonus' that occasionally get paid out.

So you may have just cost that sales person $350+. Not cool. These are people just like you. They have families and mortgages and bills to pay. Not to mention that working retail sucks donkey balls to begin with... How would you like for some asshole to giggle as they took $350 out of your pocket? Think about it.

You're an idiot if you think that this is in any way related to what the RIAA is doing.

well you do realize there are tons and tons of TV's at BB and CC that are turned on and on display for people to look at while they are just looking around that aren't being used in a sales pitch, right?

Reading comprehension FTL... "yea i agree, i use mine to mess with Best Buy and CC sales people"

And it doesn't matter if the TV in question is being used for a presentation or not. If a customer sees a TV flash off it plants a question of reliability in their mind. It's a pure dick move, it messes with real people's incomes and it's not funny.

yes, because when he turns random TV's off, even when they aren't being used in a sales pitch, guess who has to turn them back on?

oh, and at BB, they don't work on commission (i know, i worked there).

Again... reading comprehension FTMFL. Even if there is no commission to be made there are in-store bonuses and manufacturer spiffs. When I sold a TV it was not unusual to make more on the spiff/bunus money than on the commission for the sale. If you pull a move like that blow a sale for someone you potentially cost them HUNDREDS of dollars.

So I'll ask you... How would you feel if someone took a couple hundred dollars out of your pocket over a prank? "Tee hee... so funny... I'm gonna go look at CDs now"

Keep on defending this...

I wish there was one that could turn off cell phones and annoying car stereos while you're driving.

I do wonder about this. Whether or not you think it is funny or not it seems like it would be the kinda thing that would get companies to insist that Gizmodo not be invited.

While I thought it was sorta funny, i do feel bad for all the employees and it really sucks doing it during the presentation.

Airbag deployment remote control system.

Next time they will have electrical tape covering up the window on the IR detector.

Hmmm, this video seems kind of hypocritical after Gizmodo wrote this

ROFL, nice catch. What a bunch of pricks.

pwned

I posted this in the comments at Gizmodo. The response from the blogger:

BY BLAKELEY AT 03:46 PM

@Queasy: That's from 2004, not ONE person at Gizmodo now has been here that long.

My response:
BY QUEASY AT 07:48 PM

@BLAKELEY: Just goes to show the decline that Gizmodo has gone through over the years.

Congratulations. You've turned Gizmodo into a bunch of douchebags.
