Bonds hit by pitch; fans give Springer standing O
Associated Press

HOUSTON -- Barry Bonds was plunked in the right shoulder to end a wild at-bat against Astros right-hander Russ Springer on Tuesday night.

With the San Francisco slugger leading off the fifth inning, Springer's first pitch sailed behind Bonds' back, drawing a warning from plate umpire Joe West.

The next four pitches all came inside, including one that hit Bonds' bat handle on the third delivery for strike one. The fifth pitch hit Bonds as he turned to protect himself.

That's when Springer and manager Phil Garner got ejected -- and the Houston crowd gave Springer a standing ovation.

He got a standing ovation for repeatedly throwing a ball at Bonds?

Sounds like Springer is a douche

As much as Bond may generate hate, to try to purposely hit him while at bat is a pretty asstastic thing to do.

Poor Bonds. Wasn't that long ago he was a hero. Funny how dopping and using a corked bat can turn the public's opinion against you so quickly.

i watched the at-bat. it was intentional as they kept setting up inside. the last pitch was supposed to be a slider but it hit bonds as a 94 mph fastball. im surprised someone on the houston team didnt get plunked in retaliation. seems springer might have had a little sense of resentment against bonds.

When Carlos Oliveras asked if Barry Bonds would sign the ball from his 713th home run, Bonds smirked and said nothing.

Nice....nice.........

Dude, he's such a prick.. Snubbing one of his fans who happens to be active military personel. Class act that Bonds is :disgust: Screw him and his blind eye supporters... He's holding a freakin smokin gun and deserves the backlash he is recieving.

word... i can't stand bonds as much as the next guy, but that's pretty lame. it's one thing if the fans threw trash at bonds, it's another for a pitcher to throw a 90+ mph ball at someone...

If he was trying to hit him, he woudl have hit him with every pitch. He was jsut trying to not put the ball somewhere that Jackass could get a home run.

I wish every pitcher woudl just throw at him for the rest of the season.
