Years ago, when I lived in an apartment and all I had was a crappy little boombox, the neighbors once called the police. Didn't even bother to come up and knock and say "Your stereo is too loud" or pound on the ceiling or anything. It really wasn't that loud. That's even what the cops said when they showed up.

Radios i can handle. I just moved into a new apartment on Saturday and the upstairs neighbors have a dog. Well..when they leave, the dog sits at the front door and barks for anywhere from 30 mins to an hour. non stop. Of course they left at 6am on Sunday morning, so got woken up? :|

So answer the question, are you going to turn it down now that he *has* complained?

edit: perhaps you could offer the check the sound levels in his place with your stereo at different levels so you know what's too loud? After all, "loud" is subject to the listener.

well.... clearly now that he has complained.... turn it the Fvck down!

Nobody cares that you have a "quality" stereo. Around campus, if it's not between the hours of 2-10pm you need to keep it LOW, even if its not loud enough for your taste. Get better headphones.

Dude just rock out. Don't listen to these stuck up oldies here telling you that your a prick. I say if that one guy has issues then thats his problem. He is the only one having problem with noise then he shouldn't have moved into an apartment where he knew he will have to deal with noise. Tell him to move into an old folks home if he cant handle a little music. Maybe suggest some ear plugs?

Hey, why not just play it as loudly as you like?? Who cares what your neighbour thinks?

Seriously, just crank it...

When I move into a new place I always ask, "Does Deeko live here?" If they say no then I go ahead and sign a lease for only 6 six months, just in case you do move in. :D

I'm so glad I don't live near any college students. I get a nice peaceful sleep every night, except for frigging big rigs going down the street and they decide to start engine braking :|.

if you're playing music loud past 10 PM, you're an asshat. it doesn't take a genius to know everyone can hear it, especially the bass. there's one guy who i share NO walls with and i can still hear his subwoofer quite clearly, just rumbling through the structure of the building. for me, after 10 PM, the subwoofer goes off and the volume goes as low as i can put it and still hear everything. i crank it up in the afternoon when people are at work.

when you grow up you'll realize most people sign legally binding leases that set specific hours for noise and don't allow any audiable noise past 10 PM. also most cities have laws regarding this as well.

yah thanks. I signed a lease like that. I live in a city where we have hardcore noise regulations and I know exactly what they are. So how much more do I need to grow up? I feel sorry for the old people who live near alot of students/young adults that expect not to have to deal with noise. Too bad for them.

If the apartment is following the Fair Housing Act guidelines, the leasing agents can't talk about the age/type/etc of the tenents.

it doesn't matter if its 'that' loud or whatever. people are different. i know myself that i have problems sleeping if i hear noises like bass or something that is in a rythm. like if i hear a cricket or something chirping, or a clock ticking, i have alot of trouble sleeping. it happened to me plenty in college where i would hear a little bass pattern right as i was sleeping. it bothered the shlt out of me. thats why i sleep with a fan on to clear out any background noises since i have issues when i try to fall asleep. and its nothing i can help, thats just the way i am.

on the other hand, my roomate one year in college could sleep through anything. he would fall asleep while i am listening to music or playing games pretty loud, as it would usually be early. then again he was a huge druggy and probably passed out due to that shlt half of the time.

anyways, dude, just be considerate. bass travels alot farther than you think. and some people are scared to speak up, which makes it like you said, not your fault because you were unaware of it. but just try to be considerate. this is actually part of the reason I do not want to ever move into an APT and am starting to save for a down payment on a house while living at home, because i like my stuff loud, yet i don't want to be bothered by others or hear complaints..

Oh, and the proximity of the neighborhood to a campus doesn't make the area a legal "party zone." Even if it's ON campus.

So we are supposed to feel sorry for the inconsiderate college kid?

Screw that, grow up and realize the world doesn't revolve around you. Perhaps the other people are saying it is okay because they are being nice or they are college kids too who don't have to wake up early. Anyhow, life is different in an apartment and decent common sense tells you not to crank up the radio.

Ok, I'll start this off by saying I KNOW I have a loud stereo. It is loud, and I use it to its potential.

And you wonder why somebody has a problem??? You got a lot of growing up to do while in college.

Oh right, I don't work a full time job. I don't get up at 7am every day. I probably don't understand what getting up early is like.

I've been in other apartments in the building, with my music on, to see how loud it is. When its at 'night' volume, its NOT that loud, its barely audible. I understand that to some people it might still be a bother...hence why I will turn it down now. But if no one tells me I'm too loud, I'm not gonna know that I am.

I guess I should stop coming home late too. After all, if I'm "stomping"(his words) in at all hours of the night, I probably don't know what its like to have a real job. In fact, I should just rearrange my life so I'm only in the apartment times he isn't.

You think I was being inconsiderate before? If the guy wants to be an asshole when a polite 'could you please turn it down at night' would have done the job, here's what I can do. I can blast it at much LOUDER volumes during the day. I can rattle his fvcking dishes off the wall - till 10pm, when I'll be quiet as a mouse. Be an ass to me, I'll be an ass back. Be nice to me, I'll be nice back. I can be your best friend, I can be your worst enemy. Its your choice.

My god you really are an idiot. Look at the lease. from 10pm-6am (usually those hours) you have to be quit. BUT until 10pm go ahead and be loud (though many leases still state if you are to loud you can still get in trouble). Not much he can do about it UNLESS it is really really loud.

BUT after 10pm turn that crap down. IF you want it loud get a good set of headphones. HE is not being the asshole you are. YOu are not being nice you are trying to show everyone how big your e-dick is. sheesh grow up and treat people with respect.

You really need to grow up. Not every situation warrents being defensive. Just suck it up like a man and call it a day.

Comprehend what you are reading, and quit being so quick to judge.

I DO turn it down at 10, and according to those I'd talked to, I turn it down plenty.

HOW am I supposed to know that 1 out of 4 neighbors does not think its down enough, unless he lets me know? That's what you don't seem to get. Should I just go to bed at 10pm to avoid such atrocities?

The music isn't the thing I'm most annoyed about, and you judgemental, reading-challenged people are missing, its the fact that he bitched that I come home too late at night. What do you say about that??? Should I set myself a curfew of 10pm too?
