the last few threads are absolutely rediculous... in different ways. i find it HIGHLY unlikely that the driver asked how to get to the street. i find it more likely that he asked how to get to your HOUSE, which usually only happens if you don't have numbers on it that are visible. giving him the $6 was just an insult, i would've given you the penny back. he probably was being sarcastic.

When I lived in Biloxi, I was standing on the porch talking to my friend, and a pizza delivery guy stopped, got out, and asked me how to get somewhere. When I told him that I didn't know where it was, I offered him the phone, and he called the people up.

Thought that was funny. Poor guy.

I tip like $3 or so, unless the total is something weird. If I get a pizza for $15.50, I just give him the $20. Sometimes I don't have a lot to tip, so I give them what I have. I guess it evens out. I've worked fast food, I know how it is, they deserve a good tip.

Get this. I was in the math building all night w/my buddy watching anime one time. We called Papa Johns for their cheesesticks (which suck, don't buy them). We order a pizza to be delivered (to the basement) which everyone does. The guy then calls us back telling us that we can't do that, he has to have us come upstairs. A short fight on the phone occurs, and we finally agree to give him the We do that, and give him the money ($9). Because he was such a d-ick, we asked for change (it was $8.61). He was struggling, so I said, "It's 39 cents, buddy" and he gave it to me and said, "You learn that from your MATH class?" very sarcastically. I calmly said, "No, I'm not in a math class right now, it's 2 a.m." He looked confused then, and wandered off. We then proceeded to order another pizza from him, and the same sort of crap went under. This time we used my friends name.
This time I used a coupon that was on the previous box and we got a pizza. By the time it came, it was almost 4 a.m., when they close. They guy was all delerious (obviously drunk), which was funny, and this time I gave him a 10. He then yelled haha! I have your money, and started running. My buddy is a track star from HS and grabbed him and we got our change. Beat THAT FOR dumb delivery guys, foo!

Regardless of your reasons, at the time, you're a prick to post this with that attitude, now. :disgust:

If it has taken more than a year for them to deliver your pizza, you're justified in withholding the tip. ;)

did you not read the wholeeeee post? ALL i had was 6 dollars, thats it, half of that was in quarters and dimes too! i'm not excatly the richest person on here. what should i have did? told him i don't have any money for a tip and tell him to keep the pizza? that would then be a waste of his time and mine.

I always smiled and said thank you years ago when I delivered. Why would I get mad and give the customer reason to complain? Besides, I knew the average tips I would get on any night, and accepted that there were cheapskates out there that would give little or no tip, and accepted that as part of the job.

Your attitude sucks btw, you sound almost as spoiled as Jerboy.

Yes, I read the whole post. It was your attitude that sucked. If all you had was a penny more than the price of the pizza, an apology would probably have left the delivery guy feeling better than being stiffed with a wiseass remark.

Must be the lunch or something. Let me get this straight, you have 2 tens & a 5, i.e. 10 + 10 + 5 = 25... and who you called an idiot?

Yes, we've all read your holy post. You can't have it both way, either you were retaliating for him not finding your house in a set amount of time, or you were "broke" (but then why the smarmy "keep the change" comment?)

I don't think you're a criminal for only paying $6 for a $5.99 pizza, but if it were me I would have apologized for no tip & made it up the next time.

I always give $2 plus whatever change is left over. Say the bill is $17.35. I hand the guy a $20 and say "keep it." Makes them happy. Makes them come quickly to my house next time. Makes them not spit in my pizza. Makes me feel good b/c I work for tips, too.

I always tip pretty well. If it is 6 bucks I give them 9. If it is 22 I give them 27. I generally tip around 3-8 bucks.

Generally, I'm of the opinion that waiters/waitresses are paid to take my order and deliver my food and really shouldn't expect a tip just for doing their job. My opinion is usually partially supported by the high prices at most restaurants. Those prices are high enough that I'm paying for more than just the food, I'm paying for the service also. I still generally leave a tip, mostly due to peer/wife pressure, unless I get bad sub-standard service then I feel no remorse about not doing so.

However, with pizza delivery, I always give at least $1 + whatever change is due, usually $2 + change if its a bigger order. There is a hell of a lot more work involved in delivering pizza to my house than it is for some waitress to wait on me along with 5 other tables at the same time. If I was at a restaurant, I'd have absolutely no problem with getting off my butt and filling my own drink, getting my own food when ready, etc. However, I'm ordering delivery because I really don't feel like putting up with the hassle of getting in the car and driving to the pizza shop and picking up my food. So I recognize that they are doing me a service that is worth it to me not to have to do myself.

Even if I did support regular tipping, when you factor in how many pizzas a person can deliver per hour vs. how many tables a waitress can wait (+ factoring in the effort involved in each), a pizza delivery guy really should make more money than a waitress.

Maybe I'm a hypocrite, but at least thats how I view things.

all the cheese was plopped on one side of the pizza.. and i tipped the guy well, i was so mad that fvcker didn't deserve it, he took the money and sped off, i got inside and looked and it was ruined and he was gone by the time i got outside :(

First off, Stiler, you're the one who's being dumb. You said you gave the dude a handful of change? Did you think he actually counted it before he said thanks? He didn't. He probably assumed you counted out a little extra for him, said thanks, put it in his pocket, and ran off back to the shop or to the next delivery. The change in his pocket probably didn't get counted until the end of his shift, where it is lumped in with all the change from all the other poor fools who pay with coin. So, while paying for a $6 pizza in coin doesn't exactly leave a positive impression, you probably got lucky on this one. He knows you didn't tip well, but he doesn't know for sure that you stiffed him.

As far as bad things happening to your food, honestly, I don't care enough to spit in anyone's pizza, I'm in too much of a hurry. I've never done it, and I've never even heard of it happening where I work. (One thing I never do is give someone a reason to complain.)

If you stiff all the time, and I've got more than one 'za to deliver, and the route that I must take permits (one ways, dead ends, etc.), I will simply deliver your pie last. It's pretty bad for the stiffer if I've got to go downtown to a hotel before you get your pie. That can add a good 10-15 minutes to your wait. If it's a single (only one pie to deliver when I leave the store), I'll usually hurry just to beat the other drivers back in order to get the next run before they do. When it comes down to it, he who takes the most deliveries takes home the most money. Sometimes I'm up by 10 runs on some guys in the same night, which to me with my average (including mileage, which is paid in cash every night), is generally at least $30. The game of getting more runs is all about being smart about the roads and being quick while I'm out of the car. The game of getting a better tip is about being polite and professional, sometimes funny, and looking sharp and dressing well. And yeah, some people are cheap, but life goes on.

so your all saying.....instead of telling him to keep it all i should have waitied for him to count it and asked for my penny back? yea........i did you know tell him thanks and everything, i wasn't a smartass or anything to him. and whenever i order and have money i always tip the deleivery guy at least 3 bucks maybe 5 if i can afford it.
