Yah it's easy. Do your research, do your fact finding learn ALL prices over the web. Make friends with dealers who you are NOT going to buy a car from.. usually done outside a dealership and learn what they have to say.

Read EVERYTHING over at carbuyingtips.com

Read EVERYTHING over at edmunds pertaining to your car and dealers in general.

And SHOP SHOP SHOP around. Never be non-commital and never be commital. I know it sounds HARD and wierd to say that but it's not.

Here's what I typically do. I walk into a dealership knowing damn well what car I want, what options I want or don't want and the EXACT price I want to pay based off research. I know even if the dealer offers me that price I am NOT going to buy it. I will take a written quote and go elsewhere. Then see who will be that. Then get tha quote. Do it to every dealership in town, and then call dealership for the next town over and see what they will beat. I then go back to the first dealership and tell them ALL the dealers willing to beat their price and what they want to do.

Also, don't be hell bent on buying ONE car. Have options. Don't be time constrained either but tell every dealer you meet if they do the best price they can you will buy THAT DAY. But don't buy. They are trying to play mind games and screw with you so play right back and screw with them instead. Remember dealerships have one thing on your mind, getting YOUR MONEY. They can't do that without your consent and trying to make you do a stupid decision to get the most of your money they can.

Bleh, I'm done, it's not really that hard to get an awsome deal if you know what you are doing. Just be smart about it.

$21300-($8500 trade-in)=$12500+TTL :D

Gonna really miss my badass Olds.

I usually manage to do a pretty good job at car dealers, and I'd say you did great. If the #s you posted for invoice, etc, are accurate - sounds ilke you got a good deal. And you certainly did a LOT better than you would have if you hadn't traded your car in!!

Nice trade in I guess, I recently test drove a Ford Escape (same car), and was very unimpressed. To each his own, though.

the pwnage is with you, that truck just lost close to 2k when you drove it off the lot

I tend to keep my cars for a long time, so the depreciation is minimized. Hell, if I wanted a sensible wagon, I would've bought a CR-V instead of the Mazda.

I wonder if they'd give me $45,000 for my year-old Accord?
LOL!

i dont think any accord is worth that much. going for a vette though?

Sure there is.
Just go to your local Acura dealer and ask to see a new RL.

You didn't pwn the dealer at all dude. Nice ride, decent price, BUT mazda is part of the Ford right now. Ford is offering the X-Plan pricing for everyone, which is their Family plan. I have an X-Plan pin number cause my current company gets a partnership deal. However, form now till August 1st, it doesn't matter cause everyone gets the INVOICE PRICE. They are still going to make hold back on you + the normal factory to dealer incentives to sell car quotas. So even at selling at Invoice minus Factory to Consumer rebates/incentives, they are making $2000-$3000 of you since you didn't haggle for crap and took what they gave you. While you were thinking you were getting 1 over them, they were laughing cause they KNOW they got one over on you instead.

If you pay more then $1000 UNDER invoice on any car worth over $15K, you paid too much. I'm dead serious on this. A $15K car at invoice price is still going to make any dealer $1500 bucks at the very least every time.

man some of you guys are dcks. a dealer makes a 10% profit margin and you bitch and whine, but then you go out and buy sht with 50-100% profit margins!? WTF
