Daewoo is now history in the U.S.

History of name changes ;

Daewoo

Daewoe

Daewho ?

And now DaeGone 🙂

You just mean the vehicles, right? I have a Daewoo DVD player, no Macrovision (right out of the box) and regionless (with a "secret" set of remote key presses). I think I got it for $105 from Sams Club.

Why is it a good thing to have them gone? I think the more competition the better in the automotive industry. Without competition we get stuck with crappy over priced cars and trucks that flip over and kill us. I'm sorry to have seen them go..

Hey I like my Daewoo TV. Great picture, better than my Wega, pretty sad. Don't know much about the cars, but they are cheap. They make everything from TVs and monitors to machine guns. Don't think they'll be going away soon.

wait no more Daewoo? there gone? i didint no 😱

my dad built them a building about 2 years ago. (maybe 3 cant remember) we got a bunch of Daewoo stuff tv's monitors, even a car. my dad just sold the car tho hehe.

Someone told me that Daewoo's cars had engines that were manufactured under contract from Mercedes. I don't know how true or how that worked out, but it was a rumor of their engine quality. I've seen how you can get a fully maxed out mid-sized sedan from them for $13,995 with a sunroof and 6 disk changer brand new at some dealers. You can't beat that if it's a Yugo you're buying.

I'm not praising them because we knew since it was run by the Korean Government that they'd have to pull the plug sooner or later if someone else didn't buy them out, but at least they tried. (which I think they were trying to be bought out from the beginning to turn a profit)

They're not totally gone from the US. They own the Magic Chef line of kitchen appliances, which are still sold all over the place.

I have a Magic Chef fridge myself, and it works great.

Daewoo's still around. It's just their automotive division that's gone under. There was an article in today's paper about how they were bought out by GM to be part of a joint-venture. Daewoo's automotive side has been in receivership since 2000.

Yeah, GM did it to provide parts for them up to 10 years. I doubt they'll last that long though...

GM bought Daewoo... but not the US arm of thier automotive operations. GM just want's into China. Get ready to watch China become an even greater Superpower than the US during our lifetime, friends

I saw a 42/43" Daewoo Plasma screen at Costco today for $3,499. Can you say, "Schweet?"

How would GM make China a superpower?

Maybe in the future. I don't think in our lifetime.

Um, China is a super-power now in a sense. The size of what their army 'could' be is unmatched...

So neffing what?

Yea, I personally didn't like their cars at all. But the more competition the better. Oh well...my friend just bought a new Daewoo. I'm going to go laugh at him.
