haha, ANOTHER tornado watch for my area

NWS Lev. 2 Certified spotter here down by Carbondale IL, I was activated a couple of hours ago, thought my little S10 was going to flip over with some 66mph winds hit it broadside while I was positioned..

back home, but 65.6f, calm, still and a nice golden cast on evertyhing from the setting sun. Lots of lowlevel scud still passing but the birds are back out chirping away. No tornadic activity in Jackson co. Some dime-sized hail in the northern part of the county this AM however. Just checked, some really beautiful mammatus clouds in the far NW moving away.

Yea if I die it'll be happy, with my anemometer stuck to the roof of the truck, police radio in the cupholder and the NWS on the speeddial list 🙂 Love spotting, always have.

Had the sirens go off several times last night in my town. Actually had a tornado touch down on Thursday about a mile from my house.

Actually watched the tornado formation begin over my plant and am glad I decided to stay in during lunch.

Hellspawn, How did you become a weather watcher?

I'm scared of storms, maybe something like that would help me face my fears.

Same here.

I had set out the trash for the evening without consulting the weather channel...well, lets say I have no idea where my trash can is anymore. I found the lid and some of the trash, but the rest? Let's just say I'll be trash can hunting when the storm lets up! 🙂

Have you ever been through a tornado or seen one?

No sir, I have not.

I live in Dixon, IL. It's claimed that we live in a 'valley' and that tornadoes have never touched down here. I somehow still think there's a chance.

Never say never with mother nature. It flooded places that they thought it could never flood last year in 2005. Even plays that are very high up.

Mother nature can do whatever she well pleases.

Just some really heavy winds, that's about it I'd say. I'm curious as to Hellspawn became a weather watcher, this could be a pretty informative thread.

You guys must be getting what passed through here last night, only its actually doing something. They kept building it up like it was gonna be some terrible storm and we only got some rain and a bit of lightning. At my friend's party last night someone came in saying there was a tornado headed right toward us. Turns out someone he knows called him and told him there was a "tornado cloud" headed in the direction of town (so yeah, it was just some idiot trying to scare people).

Can't hardly hear the tornado sirens here, but thankfully we live in a basement apartment, so its not a big deal (which is part of the reason why the sirens are hard to hear, but even so, they aren't terribly loud).

My roomate gets all nervous and paces while looking outside every two seconds anytime there is a storm. To be honest, it gets kinda annoying and he starts going off about getting hail damage on his car.
