Hah- is it tacky to send back a tax form literally 6 minutes after a client asks for it?

A client I just started doing some freelance work for's finance department emailed me at 1:15 asking me to fill out a W9 form, saying that they couldn't process the invoice until they receive it back. I got the email the second she sent it, printed out the form, signed it, scanned it, and emailed it back to her at 1:21.

I'm at my day job and most people are already gone due to the vacation, so I had absolutely nothing else to do.

Does that come off as desperate? Or efficient?

No, that's great. You can't imagine how many times I have to ask contractors to submit their W9s. Usually the threat of withholding payment until they do resolves the problem.

Edit: Yay!

Comes off as criminal to me. Stop stealing your company's resources for your freelance work.

I like it when I get info back quickly, but if it is literally a couple minutes, I sorta think "hmm, this guy has nothing to do".

Glad my first response was from someone with experience on the other end! As long as I didn't send a money grubbing, desperate vibe...

Thanks!

I used to have a W-9 scanned in as a PSD, whenever a client asked for it all I had to do was edit the date, export to PDF, and send.

Outstanding idea, not that I'm knee deep in clients.. Clever though!

Yeah, the same vibe I got when girls I dated wrote back immediately after I emailed them -desperate!

I sometimes get a little intense about things, either I do them right away or I forget... I suppose it's not the end of the world if they think I don't have anything to do

Yeah after a few times it just started to be a hassle. I had to get my boss to sign it, and he wasn't always around, so I just scanned his signature in and built the form.
