HAF X + ROG Hero + SLI GTX 780Ti + VGA Duct doesn't fit

I was trying to finish up my new build with the parts listed in the title:
ASUS ROG Hero motherboard
HAF X Case
SLI'd GTX 780Ti

I cannot seem to get the VGA duct that sits behind the hard drive cage to fit with this configuration. The middle plastic bar on the duct sits directly over the power attachments for the second card. Is anyone out there running this particular combination and managed to get it to work? I could mod the duct if I had too but would rather not.

I can't move the duct any higher even if I wanted to because the sata connections for the hot swap bay are in the way.

Can you just remove the duct altogether? It seems rather like a gimmick, I don't think you'll have any problems without it, if you can remove it.

That's what I ended up doing. You can mount a 120mm fan in the duct to feed air between the cards. The ROG Hero seems to have the slots setup so there is already more spacing. The duct would have been more useful if the slots were sandwiched together like on other motherboards.
