Had to put my dog to sleep today (edit kinda funny update)

It really sucks. She was diagnosed with Addison's disease several months ago, and we had it pretty much under control with meds, then her kidneys just shut down sometime recently. I hated doing it, she was a great dog.

She was the second Australian Shepherd I've had, those dogs rule, so smart, loving, and protective.

EDIT: My first Aussie lived to be 12 and she died from cancer. This one was 5. Sucks to lose a good dog. Like losing a family member, really. I already told my wife not to even discuss dogs for several months. I do want to get another one, because I've got a 5 year old boy, and all boys should have a dog. I just can't even think about replacing her for a while. Besides, dogs are kind of like wives or girlfriends, the ones on the rebound never work out anyway. I've had as many wives as I have had dogs. 3 great dogs in my life, and 3 wives.🙂 Although I don't miss the ex wives, I do the dogs, what does that say?

The same thing happened to my poor cocker-spaniel 3 months ago. His kidneys just shut down, he couldn't drink or eat, and he had to be put to sleep. And he was only 10.5 y.o.! At first I was so shocked, I had the dog since 12, but now I barely feel any pain. I guess time can heal all wounds.

Sorry to hear that! 🙁

It's always sad to loose an animal that you consider to be part of the family. 🙁🙁

Well, the dogs died while you still liked them, the wives just didn't die fast enough

I would rather have my wife run off with a homeless crackhead than to lose my dog.

People who aren't dog lovers just wouldn't understand.

It's more like the dogs are loyal to you. Wives turn against you. Fvck those bitches. They're all the same.

So far I've loved my worst dog or cat more than my best neighbor. Much empathy from many of us I'm sure over the loss of a fine pet 🙁
