Had my heart set on a 2015 Mustang GT

I was all ready to go out and pre-order the new 2015 Mustang GT but after optioning it up, it comes out close to $45,000. I do not want a stripped car for maximum performance, but a daily driver loaded with creature comforts. The reviews coming in are also not that stellar, basically a heavier car with about the same performance and worse gas mileage than the old model. Its that 45k that is really putting me off though, there are some great cars that can be had for less money. I recently started looking at the 2016 Golf R and that vehicle seems pretty tempting at about 10k less than the Mustang. Any thoughts or recommendations? I have my heart set on a very sporty coupe or sedan and I would like a sub 6 second 0-60 time for sure while providing a relatively bone-jarring free ride.

Used Chevy SS might be an option, you can get them used for under 40k, heck even new they are under 45k.

My mother has a 2014 Infiniti Q50 and while that is an excellent car, I would like a different car.

Maybe check out the standard GTI instead of the R, seems like a lot more bang for the buck. The performance package isn't out yet though I think. 0-60 in 5.7 or so, manual trans available, nice seats, very nice build quality/comforts and even good mileage.

$45k for a Mustang GT sounds nuts. I had a 99 GT back in '05, I paid $7500 for that car! And I think its MSRP was $22k when it was new.

The 2015 Mustang GT gained 87lbs for the manual and only 54lbs for the automatic.
It has a completely new front suspension, and independent rear suspension. It is incredible it gained so little adding IRS. They also added 15HP and 10ftlbs of torque. More than enough to haul around an additional 87lbs and then some. Word is it can beat the previous gen Boss 302 around the track, and do it with a better ride and more control.

You won't find anything new with the performance of a Mustang GT for less money.

I can only imagine that the "same performance" number comes from you paying attention only to straight line acceleration (which is kind of a stupid way to look at cars unless you're just a drag racer).

Everything I've said puts the performance in the area of the old Boss 302.

A fully loaded GT is that price. The way I would option it up it came out to $42,000 and from what I've seen it could be via my credit union truecar purchase plan (or costco plans for that matter) for $39,000. At that price point there really is nothing close as far as all around performance. Straight line has remain the same effectively but the handling is on par with the Boss and better actually from the early reviews.

What car is going to come close stock and loaded essentially loaded for $40k? You might be able to find one that handles or one that is faster straight for less but not both. Honestly the new mustang is essentially on par with the Vette for price to performance. Nothing competes with the Vette when you get down to it and I'm suggested the Stang is about the same category - especially a base stang with track performance kit for $34K MSRP.

If you want to look cool as a daily driver and have a hot babe then get a mustang.
If you want to look cool as a daily driver and have a hot babe and want to have sex in it then get a challenger instead.

Only negative I could find for the challenger is that the doors are a ding magnet.

If I were in the market for a new car, I wouldn't be cross shopping the Mustang with anything. If I have my eye on the Stang, I'd buy it with a V8 and stick and everything else is budget bound.

I mean you could say the Camaro which is about $44-$45k with similar options that is also in it's last year or so of production. There just isn't much.

I own a 2013 S4 - love the car. but the latest Stangs, Camaro and Vettes should really start worrying the German makers. They are certainly different expectations in cars but the vette has ventilate/heated seats and other luxury features that really push them closer to being able t ocompete with the Germans. Same goes for the new Stang.

Luxury is still for the germans/lexus but man the new Vette and Stang have me thinking about switching for the first time ever.

Your statement is very true. I actually wanted a BMW first but the BMW car sales man said I was better off buying a mustang.

The new Mustang runs rings around the old as far as ride. The performanace is still there, and the fuel economy of the GT is the same.

Sounds like you want the 2.3L Turbo version, quite a bit cheaper and lighter.

Since the daimlerchrysler IP for money swap thing happened this is now what we got.

Mustang now has european suspension.
both driver and passenger window have the full auto up when in the past it was just the driver side.
Euro style radio system.... Radio stays on even when car is turned off until door is opened.

When door is opened the windows come down a tad so just in case you slam the doors then your ears do not pop. The 5.0 auto has the semi manual gear switch
The v6 and 5.0 have the double tap rear wheel sport mode which makes the transmission change gears a lot smoother at least I think so. For me it is ALWAYS in sport mode. Last year the all weather p-zero tires were awsome in the snow and wasn't stuck once.

If under 6 is your only requirement I'd think the turbo 4 or v6 would be up your alley. They are a TON cheaper too.

No, just no. All cars that don't have the window encased in a metal door frame do this so that the window can be extended in to the door seal so that it doesn't leak. It has nothing to do with your ear popping, and it is more than just common, it is pretty much required on any car with that type of door design. I've never seen one that doesn't do it. Also, they are a pain to open the door if you have a dead battery.

Agreed - If you are just looking for sub 6, I would be looking at a performance pack EB 2.3 instead of the coyote. Personally, I (me not you) would only buy a mustang with the coyote; however, I also wouldn't option it out (that's me). I would assume that the aftermarket for the 2.3 EB will be pretty good given a bit of time (and you'll be able to pick up some reasonable torque / power with just a tune). You save a lot by going with a EB premium over a GT premium.

I looked really hard at the 2015 Mustang when I was car shopping. Ultimately, I decided to order a 2015 Stingray. That being said, had they got the mustang information / test drives / etc... out earlier I might have went for the mustang and saved some coin ($20k will buy lots of mods lol). Unfortunately, I needed to have the car in my possession by late fall of this year before I move / switch projects. That probably wouldn't have been possible with the Mustang. Still might be interested in an SVT vehicle in the future. Don't know if I'm more excited about the GT350 or the new raptor lol...

Not close to a Stang, but you did mention possibly a sedan. The Taurus SHO is damn uber. It has a fantastic ride and something like 5.4 0-60. If I was going to buy a sedan it would be a SHO for sure.

If you want a car that's going to throw you back in your seat and blow your hair back, get the Stang. Realize the base car is pretty damn nice and stop optioning out cargo nets, ass air conditioning / heaters and Navi which your frigging smart phone does anyway! And don't tell me you need adaptive dampers, you'll never take it to the track.
