Had another informal on-the-spot interview today..

You may remember (or not 😛) -- I think I posted it..I picked up an application at a local bank, and was briefly interviewed before I left. I received a letter shortly thereafter stating that they're looking for others that better fit their qualifications..etc.

I had my interview at Staples this morning ($7.15/hr with experience? Hell no, sorry)..so I was in a shirt/tie/etc. I decided to pick up applications at all the banks on the way home; on the second one, the branch manager came out of her office and intercepted me before I reached the door.

She asked if I'd fill the application out there rather than take it home;we talked for a few minutes, then she left. I proceeded to fill out the application..she came back with the VP Loan Manager & introduced me to him. The three of us talked for a while -- they said if I was selected, there would be two formal interviews, and then a two week training period. Only three others applied..so hopefully my chances are good. 🙂

In other news...the guy who owns the shop near my house said I could stop by and use his spring compressor when I put the lift on my truck..free, no less. 😀

Cliffs:
Staples' pay is pathetic
Hopefully a bank wants to hire me
Free tool rental!

what are the banks hours?

some banks have some pretty nice hours (for the workers at least). Bank of New York here in town closes at 3 pm ok weekdays 😱

sounds mo betta than staplers

Their starting pay is $8.50-10.00/hr - quite a jump from 7 bucks. I'm not going to get rich quick, but it'll make the truck/insurance payments 🙂

8:30am-5pm M-F, Sat 8:30am-12pm drive-up only. I'm shooting for a CSR position, not a teller position - so I just might have weekends off. 🙂

In other words, Staples pays well? 😕

I found out today I have to take a 50 question aptitude test and hand writing sample for the job I have already had 3 phone interviews for.

Talk about getting the 3rd degree.

I used to work at a retail bank branch. Worst job ever.

What's a retail bank branch? 😕

The place you walked into and applied to...😕

'Retail' = to sell goods..hence my confusion. 😛

I'll disagree about the worst job ever part - even though I haven't been hired, I'd take it over a fast food joint. 😉

How old are you?

I worked at Staples for a year and a half, it was my first job. I started at $7 an hour and ended up at $10.50 as a department specialist within 16 months. They don't pay incredible money but it's not a bad place to work at all. I enjoyed it.

Good luck with the bank.

Your role at the bank branch is to sell. Even if you are to be a teller you will be graded and ranked based on your ability to sell bank products, the rest of your job is secondary.

I don't see loans/etc as 'products', so to speak. I have a loan for my truck..did I purchase a loan? Technically..I guess so - but I don't see it that way. *shrug*
