I think it went rather well, should come with a nice pay bump, though double the amount of driving I have to do. Will also give me real world, crucial experience in Linux for my future goals. 🙂

Seems to have gone well, got a call earlier for a follow up phone interview Monday. Seems kinda backwards to do the in person interview first, but who am I to argue?

Future goals of irrelevancy? Mac is the future. Everyone knows this.

Well, both interviews went well. Got called thursday evening with an offer, which I verbally accepted. When I informed my current supervisor of it, effectively giving him a 3 week notice, he was displeased because he was losing one of his best people. They offered to match the pay of the offer, however, I had to tell him there was a training/experience factor as well. My current position, while its been a fantastic learning experience, doesn't advance my longer term career goals. One cannot be a help desk monkey forever. The new position allows me to work closer with server systems and get my feet wet in RHEL/Cent.

Throughout the day, I was in my boss' office twice and his boss' office explaining my decision. I was repeatedly offered the pay matching and they inquired if there was any position they could offer me to keep me to stay. Unfortunately, Linux doesn't really fit into their long term plans, so . . . yeah.

The new position doesn't come without its caveats, for one, it triples the amount of driving I have to do, and I'll be working nights for a while. Doubly painful, working nights means I have to do my running at the hottest parts of the day. In Phoenix. Arizona. Again though, it does come with a 7K increase in pay.

Sounds exactly like my new job.. Way more money than I had before, way more driving, and worse hours.

Trade off is almost completely moot. (I hate the job, mainly the HOURS, but enjoy the income)

Nice, seems like the economy is starting to look slightly better.

I've passed two phonescreens and I have two interviews setup for Tuesday. Like you, I'm not really looking for a pay bump, but rather to work more closely with technology.
