Middle aged lady nicley dressed, wearing nurses garb - even stethoscope seemed well spoken enough was claiming her wallet was in car and needed $60 to get car off a tow truck around corner. She had to get to work at such and such hospital. Tow driver would'nt let her access to car until she paid unhook fee. Anyway course I gave her $60 and she wrote down my number to pay me back.. two days later I hav'nt heard anything. Oh well it's only money but I don't appreciate being lied to in order to get it. I bet she's one of those ladies driving a benz homeless you hear about. She was slick and very professional.

This was in a very good neighborhood and she was like my mothers age.. did'nt even think it could be a scam knowing what assholes some tow drivers are. They get $250 if you have to pick you car up, no?

From what I know, it's the same price to unhook as it is to pick it up from the lot. The only extra charges would incur from overnight storage (which is on thier clock, not actual time, so 1 minute past 12 midnight is another day  ).

Hindsight is everything, but when was the last time you saw someone in the medical field wearing a stethoscope when they were not "working"?

It sucks that you tried to help someone & they take advantage.

Oh well, it's Friday. Go out & party. And hope that the meth she bought with that money is fake, and has already caused her to go into convulsions & die a slow, lonely death.

If the two truck was just around the corner, I would've went over with her to the tow truck. Now if the lady and the tow truck guy were in it together, then there would be nothing you can do.

Should have offered to walk down the block & pay the tow driver yourself... reminds me of the homeless guys in NYC that used to beg me for money "for food" because they were "starving" when I worked down there ... of course when I offered to buy or give them some food they never really wanted it.

You should have taken something of hers as collateral. Sexual favors not excluded.

You should have been suspicious when she only asked for your phone number and didn't want your name and address to mail you a check or something.

This is exactly right. It would have made the scam a whole lot harder to pull off. No way would they make the investment in a tow truck just to run a $60 scam on you.

It may have been legit. Although you should have taken the stethescope as collateral, a good one will easily cost $60.

Hmmm
1) You could have followed her right to the towtruck so that she could get out her wallet and pay you right back
2) I doubt the towtruck driver wouldnt let her get her wallet from the vehicle so she could give him money

Its easy in retrospect.

The tow driver could make more money by releasing that car and picking up the next.

Good for you though. Yeah, you got scammed but what if it was for real? You were trying to help and older lady in a nice area of town.
A lot of people will chuckle and say "sucker" but if she was good, and I am guessing she was, then don't be too hard on yourself.
I once got scammed out of some $800 Cerwin Vega home speakers. Long story...

Well of course. 20/20 But I had my son with me on the way to practice kinda pressed for time.. Like I said she seemed legit. Who knows maybe she was then greed got best of her on back end looking at my #. BTW she said her name was Fran Halloway.. guess I could call a couple hospitals but then again maybe it's better if I don't know. PS my wife is a nurse too so maybe that had a subliminal part in my decison process.
