I just got back from the hospital a few hours ago. Here's what happened:
So I was off boarding in PA today, near Pocono, on one of the more winding hills. I was tearing it up down this hill like I was king of the world, when all of a sudden this chick suddenly appears, sitting right over one of the crests of this hill. I carve hard to the left to avoid her, didn't have the time to look back before I made the turn and see this other girl and knew we were both gonna die. I see sky, I see snow, I see sky, I see snow. The next thing I know I'm lying face up on the snow. I sit up, look over at the girl I hit, apologize and ask if she's OK, and she quickly says it was ok and glides away.
Suddenly I notice that my hand hurt like fvck. There's a throbbing burning pain and I can't move my hand at all. Great, I broke something. I look down and, for lack of a better way to put it, my thumb is gone. There is a lot of blood and I figure I am about to die anyway so who gives a fvck. It takes two to make a snowboarding accident, one always walks out less hurt than the other. Lucky me. I remember some people yelling but that's about it.
I wake up in a white room some time later, having lost track of time (gee I shoulda worn a watch), and I'm pretty sure I'm at the pearly gates ready to be sent to hell. Life was nice, I wish I had written out a will. I think I'd give my computer to my bio teacher, who needs a new one anyway. And I'd probably give my Gamecube to my sister, who plays it more than I do. Too bad.
Well it turns out I'm in the hospital, and a moment later I remember what happened so the first thing I look for is my hand.
The nurse told me I was very lucky that it all happened in the snow, they were able to save it and sew it back on in time. I'm at my dad's house right now with this bigass cast on my hand. I can't feel my thumb yet, the nurse told me it was gonna be nearly a week before I can feel anything, and probably two months before full functionality returns to my thumb.
Am I the luckiest person in the world? I'm an artist, a pianist, a violinist, and I started playing the guitar in July. I'm sure almost losing a thumb isn't really much, but I really haven't been hurt this bad before so it's a big deal to me. Well it's gonna be a long two months, wish me luck!
