The Army determined the conscious objector had saved 100 lives. "Couldn't be," Desmond had replied. It couldn't have been more than 50. I wouldn't have had the time to save 100 men." In deference to Desmond's humble estimate, when the citation for his Medal of Honor was written, they "split the difference", crediting the intrepid soldier with saving 75 fellow soldiers.
I think this will be movie of the year.
who cares about pacifists?
Strangely, from "the director who brought you Braveheart."
Now, I was pretty shocked to see Mel Gibson getting work in Hollywood again, but they didn't even say/present his name in that trailer that ran all day today.![]()
"Say what you want about Mel Gibson, but the son of a bitch knows story structure."

Looks quite good, is this based on someone?
well there aren't too many white hat heroes in the throes of battle, right? Even the allied forces did some nasty shit. Can you imagine? Fucking Japanese wanted to go after medics. I don't even think the damn Nazi's went after medics.

Well, I guess when you do something right, you just keep doing it.I like the fact that the only Canadian one involves setting people's houses on fire. Apparently we were quite the arsonists back then. lol. We burned down the white house too (in another war). We also burned down our own parliament. By accident.
Lol--loved that episode and I do like Mel Gibson flicks....well, except the Patriot. Not that it was awful, just that it was better when it was called Braveheart.
Gibson appears to have a strong affinity for war tales, men on men stuff, beaucoup de gun work and heroism. Much like Clint Eastwood. I recommend a great modern war story he starred in, We Were Soldiers Once And Young, recounting the first major battle of the Vietnam War where the US Army ( Air Calv) went up against NVA regulars . As someone put it, they've got us surrounded ! Great, we got'em just where we want'em.

The book that the story is based on by (then) Col. Moore is, of course, better in all ways, but nothing quite matches a realistic visual: Col. Moore served as military consultant to the director. There are Hollywood fringes to elements of the film, but the exhilarating war story, the suffering and the heroism come thru in spades.

You know, I've never seen that movie, only seen the previews. Now I need to see this movie because it looks damn good!
