Hackintosh + Time Machine restore

I Googled this but am not finding what I'm after. My HD with OSX died and I have a Time Machine backup on another (10.6.2) I remember when I was running 10.5 and had to restore a Time Machine backup I couldn't boot to it due to the boot loader missing. I fixed it by re-installing the bootloader I had on a flash drive. I have since wiped it. Is there any other way to do this aside from re-installing SL then restoring the Time Machine backup - or will that even workj?
 
Not unless you know how to roll your own hacked installation disc. You need a fully functional OS environment restore a Time Machine backup. Right now that means doing a complete Hackintosh install and then restoring. Installation discs can be hacked up, but it's significantly harder to do.
 
Theoretically, you should be able to install OS X on your Hack, like normal. Then run Migration Assistant after you've got the bootloader and all the updates in place. Then Time Machine will only restore your User files and prefs.

When you say user files, you don't just mean my documents right? I had a ton of programs installed and it would take forever and a day to re-install them all. I'm not even close to as good on OSX as I am on Windows. Can one just copy over everything in the applications folder and have the programs all work right?

HUMM I think I'm assed out, I can't find my Leopard disc and am just remembering for whatever reason you can't install SL without making a bootdisc from a Leopard system. I have no access to a MAC to do that so I guess I have to dig up my Leopard disc, install it, then install SL then restore my Time Machine? CRAP that's going to take forever. 🙁

Maybe use a VM in Windows to install OS X to?

You can just copy over all your Applications and then also all the Application data from your user's Library directory. I believe Time Machine can restore all that as well, though.
 
Unless I misread something, if I restore my Time Machine, then boot SL using the DVD when I hit the desktop I can install Chameleon and my SL should be back to working. Now I just gotta dig up my SL DVD and see if this actually works.

Or you can just use a separate chameleon partition, like a 1GB partition,, install no modified files on the SL partition. That way you have a 100% vanilla install. Restores worked fine for me with this method.
