I am happy to report that OSX is now running nicely on my litte Acer. Still plenty of issues to work out, but very impressed so far. It doesn't seem to understand my battery fully yet, so I need to hunt around for a fix. But overall,

This Acer is a hybrid between a netbook and a laptop, running a Core 2 Solo U3500 CPU, 2gb RAM, 250gb HD, 11.6" LED LCD, X4500 graphics, 3lbs, 5-6 hours of battery life.

The list so far;

OSX Leopard - Working (iPC 10.5.6)
Speakers - Working (w/ Voodoo HDA)
Audio I/O - Working (w/ Voodoo HDA)
Video - Working (Native Res but no QE yet w/ drivers from IM)
Webcam - Working (Native)
Wireless - Working (Native - Swapped in a Dell 1510 Wifi Card)
Trackpad - Working (Native - But need to get multitouch working)
Sleep - No
Battery Gauge - No

I have the same notebook but I can't seem to get the video to display at Native res. How did you do so? Another question is are there drivers or Kexts for lan support?

I'm in the process of moving at the moment, but if you head over to InsanelyMac forums and to go to the Graphics Cards - Intel subforum, there is a thread for the X4500 that has some drivers that will work.

Hi Aphex, could you please tell us which distrib and Kernel you used ? I tried with iDeneb 10.5.8, installed went fine but can't boot in OSX, only have a white blinking hyphen.
Thanks in advance !

seems no response on this thread, but i have a question and this is the only relevant thing that comes up in a google search, hopefully someone can help me out.

i have an acer 1410 (coming in the mail) with the su2300 processor and would like to try to put snow leopard on it if possible? could anybody point an absolute beginner to this kind of thing in the right direction??

thanks

Sorry for the delay, work has been a little crazy as of late. If i have time this weekend i'll draw up a walk through, if not, next weekend I should have time.

thanks for the response, a little guide would be appreciated... the only references i've found on other forums is that it isnt possible because of the graphics card, but sounds like you've got it working. i would love to give this a shot on my machine, and since this is such a popular little computer, i'm sure others would enjoy it. will there be much of a difference with all the different processor options available?

thanks again!

hi, thanks for this thread. I own a Acer 1410 too and I would like to use it as a MacBook Mini. Thanks for the guide you are writing. I have never set up an Hackintosh and any help would be appreciated.

thanks and happy hacking!

Nice. I like OSX86 on my EeePC too...it feels for some reason speedier than Windows XP. Although I am having some annoying video issues with the GMA 950. The screensaver runs like frozen molasses and while it will detect an external display nothing shows on it.

hey! i hope i'm not being a bother, but wondering if you are still planning on a guide of some sort. i know its a crazy time of year, so im not tryin to hassle ya, just wanted to express that we're still interested in learning what you have to share

thanks again

No worries, i actually got about 50% done with it, then got caught up with work. I hope to have it done soon.

my brother just got this netbook/notebook hybrid. its great! however, the first thing i wanted to help with him with is hackintosh it. i couldnt find any info on it until now! 🙂 cant wait to see your guide aphex! REALLY looking forward to it!

well snow sucks on my laptop, doesnt even see all the memory. But i tried using that empire efi lol. It got it to run but lots of work left to do.

Hi there,
you need to use this script:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=173338

It gives native resolution, but no deeper possibilities.

I have the same machine, so far installed iDeneb Leopard 10.5.8. No wifi, no LAN, sound ok, native res ok, no brightness adjustment possible, USB ok.

I'll keep you posted about my progress.
Cheers,
Mirek

Really looking forward to reading this! I spent AGES trying to get iATKOS v7 setup on my 1810TZ but in the end I couldn't even get it to boot off the USB disk (or thumbdrive). Had so many issues I decided to stop and wait until someone smarter than me does it first 🙂

One of the main issues I faced was that I'm running Win 7 ultimate on the thing, and want to dual boot OSX86. There were a bunch of distro's and tools that worked with XP or Vista, but not Win 7. Win 7 has a hidden boot partition (for Windows Recovery Environment) and this caused the 'normal' hackintosh distro's to fail for some reason - I think it was related to the MBR settings and the hidden partition messed them up somehow so the OSX86 installation USB drive wasn't being recognised properly during install.

I was half way through developing an iPhone app on my wife's MBP (which she has now reclaimed!), so getting this to run on my laptop is important to me.

I really love the 1810tz, it's a great little computer. Looking forward to reading your 'how-to' guide soon!! 😀

I'm gonna be slammed at work until wednesday, but will have a half day on thursday and the holiday weekend off. I plan to finish it up this weekend.

Any update on this? I got one of these for my GF on Christmas and would love to install Snow Leopard on it if possible.

Wow, didn't know there was so much interest. I'll have it finished ASAP, sorry for all the delays.

Just chiming in that i too am awaiting your guide with eager eyes. just loaded up windows 7 this weekend (even though i've had the laptop for 3 months already. it came with vista and i wanted to wait till i had the time to do the upgrade MY way.) and am looking to dual boot with Mac. dont know if you will be able to tell me but are there any USB wireless adapters that work with hackintosh? i know my built in wireless will not be functional but if there was a USB Wiresless adapter that works under osx then it might be worth buying

count me in as another interested party. I tried to get 10.6 running (a bit of a noob attempt) but had to use external keyboard/mouse and couldn't get network up. Thanks for documenting!
