Hey there.
I'm planning on building a Hackintosh exactly like one of the machines you posted about
(Gamer / Graphic Artist Hackintosh I7 Build - $764.96 Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz ). A couple of questions:

1. Does everything work? (firewire, ethernet, quartz, etc.)
2. Did you use retail or a patched install dvd.
3. What method did you use to install? (any step-by-step online?)
4. Anything I need to look out for?

I will be forever in your debt if you can help me with this.

Thanks a million!

I would use the latest Ipc. That means I used a patched install dvd, (make sure to buy a legit copy of osx.)

There are no real step by step guides, the board is extremely compatible, I used the vanilla kernel, and just installed the kext for the 9800gtx. Ethernet and quartz worked fine, I never tested firewire.

Be prepared for some trial and error, not every build is the same, but I can try and help as much as possible.

How simple is the OS install on the BOXD945GCLF2D?

And is there anyone who has a continually updated guide such as Kaido does for different mobo?

it only costs $350

i tried it and its possible to make a hackintosh pc for only 350$

http://forum.10007.info/index.php?topic=59.0

Heck, you can make a fully-working 1080p-capable Hackintosh for only $275:

I think I'd switch out that 7200 for a 9400 since it's only like thirty bucks more for full hardware acceleration that should be supported by OS X.

I'm going to do exactly the same thing and was hoping for some advice. I've got a lot of experience with computers as I'm a PC tech but I've only been working with Macs for the past 2 years. I need one for school and I just wanted to know, since this will be the first computer that I've ever built, is the mobo compatible and how exactly do I go about installing OS X on this machine. Thank you for the guidance.

FYI: The 7200GS is $24.99, is fully hardware accelerated (QE/CI enabled), can play 1080p like a dream, and is capable of spitting out video using an HDMI adapter:

You can buy the 9400 - but all you'd be doing is spending twice the money for no benefit (unless you have an app that actually has GPU-acceleration). Just installed a 7200GS in my Media Center hack and its fab-oo-lous! :D

This is an amazing thread. I think that the prices for the last two models are wrong though because the cost of the better processor alone is about $1000 on Newegg.

Also, what changes would you make to this list now that it is July? Anything new come out?

EDIT: How important do you think the graphics card will be when Grand Central comes out? Won't it be utilized for multicore processing at an operating system level?

How do you know it's compatible with Snow?

This is from my thread here:

I have the following. Before I even try, I was wondering if I can turn this hardware into a Hackintosh?

Shuttle SD11G5
Pentium M 734 (1.7 GHz)
Corsair VS PC4200 512mb
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120 GB
Lite On DVD+/-RW SOHW-1213S

Thanks.

since SL will support all Intel Macs i'm guessing it should be OK. Unless they add something to kill hackintoshes.

Does anyone, anywhere, have a developer preview of Snow Leopard that can test/confirm this theory?

G'Day Guys and Girls,

I must impress that I have not been a Mac user for quite some years. However I have a creeping curiosity to get back into macs.
And I just received a request for a iPhone Application to be built.

Upon trying to register as a developer, I noticed the following message:

"Technical Requirement:
To develop with iPhone SDK you must have an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X Leopard."

if I was to go with the extreme build, would I be safe in saying that I can get a legit copy of leopard, and run the SDK ok?

I was actually looking at building another machine using the Intel i7 chips, so I assume I can just dual boot a Win 7 and OS X system?

Thanks for reading, and again, great post.

Yes. A Hackintosh is capable of running the SDK just fine. However the standard warnings about the reliability of a Hackintosh still apply: if something goes wrong there is no support, so tread carefully.

Skulkingghost, can you point me towards a guide/driver pack for that MSI X58 Pro board?

Do I understand correctly that you're using a hacked installer and not the Boot 132/retail method for all these builds?

Thanks...

Hi, how are you. , I saw your posting and you stated you could help answer some Questions. I am building a hackintosh with the mother board is MSI X58 Pro. The cpu is i7-920 Quad-core. I would like to make a vanilla install with a copy of osx 10.5.5.

every time I try to install the boot baby, I follow the directions and when I am putting the osx 10. The computer just reboots. I tried the different install builds. Kalyway, boot 123, Iaqtkos and iDeneb. They all do the same thing, They ask witch hard drive I want to install to then it reboots.

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Thank you,

10.5.5 doesn't support the Core iX series. You need something based on 10.5.7 or later.
