So in general as OS X is updated and moves towards Snow Leopard do you think we will see more compatibility or less for Hackintosh ?
It seems ease of install and compatibility have gotten much better over the last year or so, but it looks like that's mainly the work of the developers etc....

OS X hasn't changed too much for many years, in relation to putting a damper on the Hackintosh scene. It's all about development in the scene, rather than about what Apple does. There are only a handful of developers doing any real work, the rest of us are just regular users. So as those few have made progress, the rest of us have benefitted. Like the Chameleon 2.0 beta now has nifty icons for boot selection, that's pretty nice!

10.5.7 looks to be like an easy update, of course we'll find out on release day, but so far it's looking fine. From what I've heard, Snow Leopard is still easily Hackintoshable, although the developer builds are far from finished, so it's kind of one of those "we'll burn that bridge when we cross it" type of things 😉

Snow Leopard is using all new drivers for the 64bit kernel. This means all those existing non-Apple drivers are going to be useless for Snow Leopard and will need to be rebuilt (if not reprogrammed entirely).

Snow Leopard will still be Hackintoshable, but it's going to be little better than starting from ground-zero similar to when Mac OS X Intel builds were released in the first place.

!!! I've been waiting for this... following the threads over at insanely too. Netkas and other users who have had success have not given much detail.... All I know is that QE/CI are working. Is it safe for a new hackintosher to pull the trigger on the $185 4890 deal now?

Ultimatly I'd like to run dual dvi displays... so a vga dongle requirement would be a bummer, but still not a dealbreaker..

Here's a rule you should take to heart for any purchases you go after in life: never, ever, ever buy something that has "planned" features that you want that would otherwise be a dealbreaker for you. In other words, only buy stuff that has the specific features you want right now, not in the future. Don't count on vaporware when you're putting down your hard-earned cash! If 10.5.7 comes out and you've spent $250 on a 4890 and it turns out not to really work, you're going to be more than a little irked.

I say wait 🙂
 
@Kaido, and others who've installed the lastest UD3P method minus VoodooPower:

Any kernel panics? Everything ship shape?

I ask because I'm sitting here building yet another UD3P machine for someone, and I want this thing to be, as always, as perfect as possible for its owner. I've never had a dissatisfied owner of a UD3P thus far, so hoping everything is peachy with the current install method.

I'm on like Day 7 with no Kernel Panics on all 3 of my home rigs. It's solid!

I'll post all 3 versions tomorrow - DS3L 10.5.6, UD3P 10.5.6, and UD3P 10.5.7 (sans AHCI kexts since ICH10 is supported in 10.5.7). If I get Saturday off work, I'll make sure the Wiki guides get done. I'm about a third done with the articles. Lookin real good so far 🙂

Yeah.. I'm sure you're right. I keep having to fight of my "oooo new tech" instincts with this build since it primarily needs to be a stable hackintosh.

On that note, can anyone verify for sure that the GTS 250 works 100% in OSX like the 9800GTX+ it really is? If so, I think i'm gonna pick one up this week.

I know one person who successfully got a 1GB GTS 250 setup. Just use the 'custom' feature in Uinstaller to put in the name & memory size.
 
Just wanted to post some pics of my latest build, successfully installed with Kaido's kit.
UD3P- Q6600 - 4GB G.Skill 1066 DDR2
2x 640GB Samsung SATA hard drives (Mac and Windows dual boot)

eVGA nVidia 8600GTS

Using onboard audio and LAN.

At the owner's request, I added this LG Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, drive. This drive works fine with OSX: installed fine, reads/plays DVDs, writes DVDs and CDs (Toast 10 no problems at all- Toast 9 crapped out) and reads Blu-Rays and HD-DVDs, but of course, can't play HD movies. (Thanks a lot Jobs!) On the Windows side, everything works great- Blu-ray via DVI/HDMI to a 56" screen looks fan-freakin'-tastic!

Also, fully working wireless N thanks to this Encore ENLWI card and the ralinktech drivers for 10.5

Gigabyte Triton 180 case- simply fantastic. This turns out to be a much higher quality case than the price would indicate- very sturdy and lots of cool extras.

Yup, OSX reads the data on a BD disk just fine. As far as a ripping tool for OSX, I have no idea. In Windows... nodda problem with that either. 😉
 
Coming to you live from my newest Hack. Just got it going with the help of Peter Haas. Using a combo of the Wind kit from Kaido and drivers found on the web we have a pretty neat little netbook. Wireless works, 1024x600 video, card reader works, and of course ethernet worked OOTB. Only minus is the sound, but we are still searching for answers to thrat. This keyboard is a little hard to type on, but it can be done. Now back to your regularly scheduled discussions...

I didn't know that the card reader worked on the Wind, nice! The sound was a sore spot when I was working on it, so maybe it hasn't gotten much better. But there's always that $8 USB stick 😉

Yep, Peter even has an eSATA card working on his, the sound is not a big problem for me, I have a pair of Logitech USB notebook speakers which work great with the Neutrino. I bought this mainly for use at work so it will be perfect for what i bought it for. Very cool little 'puter.😎
 
Is there a simple way to add remote control to my hack (built on DS3L)? What dongles + remote unit required? This is really only for iTunes, and really only Pause + Play would suffice 🙂
