So, I switched to the Asus P5N7A-VM. Wow! So much easier. Start to finish 20-30 minutes. Couldn't have been easier. Basically everything works, but restart and there's a fix about. The drives show as external and my wireless is weird like in by Gigabyte build. It did work perfectly, but I never figured out why. I'll be using ethernet anyway, so not a big deal.

For a mATX Hackintosh, that is a good way to go. I do miss the Firewire, but that's easily solved for a few $. I struggled with the Gigabyte E7AUM, but the Asus was fall down easy and fast.

If anyone wants information, let me know. Again, Kaido, if you want any info or testing on this, please let me know.

Not only that, but people should remember when installing Windows, remove every single other drive from the power first- including unplug USB card readers, USB thumb drives, etc. Not just for bootloader issues, but that's part of it too.

Windows has an annoying habit of sometimes trying to make everything else C: BUT the drive you're installing to. Recently I forgot to remove my front panel card reader while doing an XP install, and freakin' Windows assigned the card reader slots as C: D: E: F: G: then my Windows drive as H: and DVD drive as I:!

Sounds like it wouldn't matter, but then some programs try and install information by default to C: (in this case, now an empty card reader slot) and all sorts of hilarity ensues.

You can change the drive letters after the fact, but then Windows will bitch that it can't change the boot drive from H: or whatever crap it's assigned other than C: like it should be. Yes, it can be done with a registry hack, but then again, save the trouble in the first place and just unplug everything else, install Windows- then plug other drives in.

Sure, upload your drivers and I'll take a look at them. Audio work? Networking? Onboard video?

This will work with a partition for a 10.5.4 (I believe), right? It just changes the 9e or 7f or whatever you type when you boot off the bootCD, right? You just point it to the HD partition? So I should be able to move all my data to my backup drive, unplug it, move, say, the 10.5.4 ISO and the 10.5.6 combo update to the smaller partition, leave the current install on the main partition, follow the instructions but just point the install thingee to the smaller partition and be good to go?

Yeah it should work. The PC_EFI v9 stuff should overwrite what you have now, but iirc you already have that, so you should be fine. To set the old partition active when you're done, just install PC_EFI v9 on it again. You can download a stand-alone installer here:

Yeah I read the thread on Insanely and saw how different it was/is for the install on the Asus board. Shame though, the Gigabyte looked to be an awesome Hack.

I'll do that sometime this evening, need to make more room on the HD for an extra partition. I'm running out of HD's but more are on the way so it will be okay soon.

Oh, I meant I have a 10 gig partition with an ISO of my retail 10.5.4 DVD. I didn't mean I had an actual install on that partition. I just wanted to make sure I could do this without needing my physical disk since it's muuuuuuch slower.

Oh, yep, sure. Just select the Leopard ISO partition initially.

I did mine this way for a long time also, it is much, much quicker, but have gotten out of the habit once I had a solid install. Doesn't take that much longer using the DVD when I need to test an install, but I still need to make the extra partition on the HD to do it. All the more fun to have. :thumbsup:

Installed from DVD and forgot to use customize to eliminate unwanted options, so mine took a bit longer. Followed the instructions and it seemed to work very well. It is running the latest with all updates installed, so far, so good. Will use it a few days and see how it goes, but all the basic stuff seems to work, just didn't try sleep, I think you know how I feel about that. :evil:

I'm new to posting here and would like to build an E45 hackintosh. I have been going through the threads to make sure I can do it and even downloaded the most recent kit. The kit refers me to the leopardsoup wiki for more details, but I can't get in and view anything since I'm not a member of the wiki. Any help on what I need to do to view the wiki would be greatly appreciated.

I am planning on getting the GA-EP45-UD3P along with an XFX 9800GTX, Intel Q6600, 4GB OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2-1066, LG SATA DVD burner with LightScribe, and two 500GB WD Caviar Black HDs (one for OSX and one for XP). I just want to make sure that I get stuff that's compatible as possible before I get myself into trouble.

Everything sounds good except I'm not sure about the video card. I know there are some 512 Mb cards which don't work so perhaps someone else can chime in about that. And for XP to run with the AHCI enabled be sure to set it up properly or else you won't have access to your DVD burner while using XP. HTH
