I am recommending 10.5.6 now. The latest Quicktime update seems to have completely eliminated the mouse jitter issue for me (not the iTunes one, for you 8x00 users).

Thanks for your support Mosslack. Moral support from this forum helped me a lot during the whole proces of installing the hackintosh!!!

Fixed the problem with the 2nd HD. I took my 1st HD out and booted from the boot cd and continued with the install cd from OSX. Before installing OSX i turned to the Disk Utilities which recognized the HD!! Formated it and put everything back in (HD1 in port 0 DVD in port 1 and HD2 in port 2) and restarted. While trying to boot from HD 1 the computer hangs. Changed the DVD and HD 2 (meaning DVD in SATA port 2 and HD2 in SATA port 1) and now everything works fine. After startup OSX recognises the 2nd HD and asks if it can use it for time machine!!

Haven't changed to your HD boot so far. Loaded the zip document from this site, but couldnt find a clear description of the proces. Or did I just overlook this?

As Kaido says, Hackintoshes are a constant learning process, what works for one may not always work for others. I'm happy to hear you have the 2nd HD recognized and being used now. As for the HD booting process the main thing which make this happen is the Chameleon bootloader. Make sure it is at least version 1.0.11-DSDT, or preferably the latest version PC EFI v9 Chameleon v1.0.12. Once the bootloader has been installed on your boot drive, it should then boot without the need for the USB stick. HTH

Edit: You can get the latest bootloader here:

Works fine for me on my P35 Hack running 10.5.6, opened each app and created a small test doc, saved to desktop and then closed out. Double clicked on each test doc and it opened the app up as it should. Looks pretty nice, may go ahead and buy it. HTH

Yeah. The mouse thing seemed to have came back, so I upgraded to the new Quicktime, and I'm not sure it's fixed. Lovely 8600 user here.

Blah.

Just tried the same test on my MSI Wind, which also uses the GMA 950 video. Ran fine there also. Not sure why it won't run on your laptop. Ah the land of the Hacks, never a dull moment here!

There's a separate 8x00-series bug.

btw, what's this 8x00 bug exactly?

And anyone do some xbench tests? I noticed under the quartz graphic test.. my Rectangle and Bezier scores are horrid compared to similar systems (and even similar cards, 8800GT).

Ok i just installed with my 1900gt insalled and it has full dual screen, CI/QE/GL on 10.5.5 using this fix (http://forum.insanelymac.com/i....php?showtopic=127629) but i can not get the video QE in 10.5.6 :(.

Partitioned HD 2 have 2 installs going. One with 10.5.6 missing QE (Test system) and 10.5.5 (using)

Would love to get the 1900gt in 10.5.6 and ATYinject only gives resolution and CI

Yeah that's the trouble with Hack drivers, you never know when the versioning support stops. I can't use my Quadro hack beyond 10.5.5 on my particular setup :(

yep kinda sucks... still really waiting for 48xx support. Im real excited about snow though.

I think its causing sleep to not work too :(. You think i should try a sleep kernel? I really need sleep...

Guide was great btw. Super easy and fast. One question i have though is how do i do some sort of backup so i can try different kexts and stuff and if it breaks.

I tried backing up extensions and restoring but that did not work :(.

Easiest way is to split your boot drive into 2 partitions (you can resize anytime with GUID) and clone your existing install to the second partition. Tweak the drivers on the second partition and then reboot, selecting the second partition at the Darwin prompt. Then you can see if stuff works or not, and you can always go back to your main partition if needed. For an even safer method, do it on a secondary hard drive, just in case.

yeah I actually split it up in 5 parts :/ 1 is 10.5.6 install (test) , 2 is 10.5.5. 3 and 4 were gonna be boot camp (for fun). Now re thinking this is to much hehe

Im gonna try a sleep see if that works.

Cpu throttling didnt work either. I installed the voodoo tools. Now it works though. Was it supposed to work?

Edit: sleep didnt work. It seems shutdown doesnt work after a prolong period of time, this could be due to my dvd rom. Which cuts off after a period of time. Maybe its affecting sleep too... gonna unhook and try.

Some feedback on cards I have used:

1. Grandmars ATI HD2400 256MB (with heat sink fin thing)
2. (i think I used netkas or Natit kext / method+ was using kalyway install)
3. Works perfectly in 10.5.4 Dual monitors tested working (DVI and VGA)
(did not test it with 10.5.5 or .6, as got 8400gs to improve quality)

1. Sapphire 8400GS 256MB (With Fan)
2. NV Installer (EFI studio)? don't know..
3. Works perfectly in 10.5.5- Dual monitors tested working (DVI and VGA)

1. Forsa 6600GT 256MB (With Fan)
2. Used Universal Osx86 installer that came with DS3Lkit (EFI studio)
3) Works perfectly in 10.5.6- Dual monitors tested working (DVI and VGA)

Kaido, the size of ds3l kit has increased to 175MB. Any major changes, that we should check out? i compared it with old file, seems not much different..

So what would be the ideal way to swap video cards? I know, ideally I would start from scratch to diagnose, but I'll reserve that for later. I want to drop my EVGA 8800GT 512 card for a Zotac 7300GT 256MB. I do like that it's fanless, heh.

swap cards, boot, reapply kexts, reboot?

1. Uninstall old driver (if EFI String, delete from the boot plist)
2. Install new driver (Uinstaller)
3. Shutdown
4. Swap cards
5. Boot up and verify QE/CI

The Zotac 256mb 7300GT is a beast. Avoid the 512mb, it doesn't work.

Is it possible to use the Nvidia 10.5.5 kexts/drivers/wha? on a 10.5.6 system? The mouse bug is killllling me. Boo.

Sometimes. EFI Strings usually yes.

I installed it via Uinstaller from the get go, so that'd be an EFI string?
