I a not able to get sleep working. Also my ethernet won't run at 1000X speed, it only works at 100X or 10X. As far as I can tell everything else is working. But the main thing I would like to get going is the sleep function to work.

My Bios is 1.07.

I have tried the following different install methods, MSIWindx86.iso (10.5.4); Kalyway 10.5.2; and weaksause12's wind kit (which I believe was for the netbook version of the MSI Wind).

With the weaksause, method, I am able to get to 10.5.6 fine. Using the 950 driver that comes with this windkit, I can only do 1024x786. When I do sleep, everything shuts down but the display and everything else wakes up when I touch the mouse or keyboard.

So replaced the 950 display driver that came with the kit with a different Intel GMA950 driver. 1. to more display options. 2. hopefully to get sleep working.

I get more resolution options. But now when I put the system to sleep everything goes to sleep. I get an amber light and everything is quite. But when I push the power button to wake everything up, the display remains black. Also I expect there are other symptoms as I can't ping the machine either.

So if anyone who has sleep working on their machine could tell me what they did to install or where they got their drivers, I would be a very happy camper.

Thanks.

I never used the Wind kit, I used the Atom kit, which is available here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?shar...a335cae1508bd5622028d6

As for sleep, I never use it so I don't know. Next time I am on it I will try it and see. HTH

Thanks.

I'll give the Atom kit a try and see if this does the trick.

Grr... That didn't help.

Now, the display goes blank and the fan kicks into high gear and there is no waking it again.

NOTE: when doing the unistaller, I didn't apply a EFI String for video card. I am not sure if that is important or not. But after the reboot the card seems to be recognized and I am getting all the expected resolutions.

I just wanted to take the time to to thank.... Kaido, leglez, and Zaap, for their video card advice... As I am ultimately looking for a dual dvi video card that can be used in dual view mode with 100% functionality in 10.5.5 and/or 10.5.6. (No flickers, static or reset issues)

I have two Eizo CE240Ws that I wish to keep color managed for photoshop purposes. I am really not concerned with gaming. So the highest end card is not necessary, but I don't want to bottle neck my system either.

The other problem I have found... most of the compatible cards are not available for purchase anymore. So it seems like pickings are slim for an inexpensive card that will meet my needs.

Leglz, Thanks for the link for this card. It looks like it will work perfectly just need use vga for one of my monitors. What drivers did you use?

Zaap. If you are able to help with the model numbers of the eVGA 8600GTS or the 8800GTX... maybe I might be able to get them somewhere other than newegg! I mentioned in a post or few back There are two eVGA 8600 GTS on newegg now... eVGA 8600 GTS cards.... wondering if these may possibly be the cards you used to get dual dvi

Thanks again to all.

I hate to even suspect it, but I'm pretty much stumped otherwise. Ubuntu 8 boots just fine on my EP35-DS3L machine with AHCI on. Any of my machines boots/installs Live CDs with AHCI on.

The stumper for me is: if it was just a hard drive or OS issue, the optical drive should still boot. There's almost zero chance both the optical drive and hard drive could be defective, so whatever problem has to originate at the controller. If the BIOS settings are right, then I have no idea what that might be.

If I were facing the same issue, I'd start with resetting the BIOS to default settings, then seeing if I could get anything to boot with the defaults. Then try re-applying the original settings. If still no go, try pulling out the BIOS battery for about five minutes, and connecting the hardware reset jumpers with a metal object to completely clear/reset it, and try booting an OS again. It might be that somehow the BIOS got corrupted. Beyond that, I'd re-flash the BIOS -especially if you're not running the latest version, and then see if things work.

Hopefully if the SATA controller is messed up, one of these will reset and correct it.

I'm pretty much certain that the first one, the P2-N762 is the one we used. The main difference with the other one is that it's overclocked, but I think it's the same card. Just to be certain, I have an email out to my friend that owns the machine to check his newegg invoices for the exact model number of the card- but we did get it on newegg about 4 months ago.

I'd be glad to test my own 8800GT for you, but I just don't have a spare DVI cable right now to temp hook up with dual DVI. My monitor cables are hardwired through the walls (towers are in a closet) and I've stuck with 1 DVI and 1 VGA rather than having to rewire it.

Thanks Zaap....

Do you think we might hear from your friend today? That would be great.... finally all of my parts would be available on newegg! It would be a miracle.

Hi Kaido,

Added the parts of the computer together this weekend and installed my retail OSX on the HD. I'm now at the part of inserting the USB Stick and ran into a few problems. The hackintosh doesn't boot from it.
* I did install the bootloader onto it (syslinux -ma J: ) and copied all the files to it, but bios doesn't recognise the particular stick. I can prioritize "bootable Add-in cards" but not the specific BOOT132. I did the whole proces of formating, renaming and copying again without succes. Any solutions?

Thanks, Roel

[UPDATE]
Found the problem. My PQI 2GB *&^%$#@@# USB Stick didn't understand anything of your Boot 132 package. Changed it for a cheaper samsung USB stick which did the job easily.

Okay, I didn't catch this the first time, but are you sure about your bios version? Mine is at v 1.20 and I think there are a couple of never versions out there. From what I remember, v 1.70 is causing problems so everyone was backing down to v 1.50. How is sleep supposed to work, I have never used it at all?

Okay, I just tried sleep. Does the same thing on mine, fan kicks up and nothing you do can bring it back. Now you know why I don't use sleep! Getting computers to wake from sleep is one of the oldest problems there is around. I never really understood the concept of sleep mode in the first place, I mean what is it's purpose? If you are done using the computer, turn it off. If you know you will be using it later just switch off the monitor and leave it be. This is why the first thing I always do to a new install is the set sleep mode to NEVER!

Okay, the card was the P2-N761-AR from here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814130084

Unfortunately, the exact card is discontinued.

However: I can't see a whit of difference between this card and the P2-N762-TR card you linked to.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814130320

Comparing the specs, they seem identical.

The N761-AR has a 6 pin power connector (when I set it up, I recall using a molex to 6 pin adapter) and the N762-TR has a molex connector, and the capacitor layout is a little different.

I'd be willing to bet the N762-TR will work exactly the same.

Anyone else have an issue where their audio just stops working?

I know about the whole Sys Prefs, and changing the output to "Line out" instead of "Headphones".. and I've tried reinstalling the drivers. But sometimes my audio just stops working. Then I do a system reinstall and it's back working perfectly. I can't seem to pinpoint why it stops..

For instance, last night it stopped after I was moving my gear around a bit.. trying to rearrange. So I unplugged it all.. and then rearranged and plugged it back in. Now no audio. I know the line works, because I plugged my iPhone into it and it plays just fine.

So strange.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. I think mine came with 1.5 and I upgraded to 1.7 as there was an article on the MSI Wind by the Uselessninjas that recommended going to it. I might try going back to 1.5.

Okay, I just tried sleep. Does the same thing on mine, fan kicks up and nothing you do can bring it back. Now you know why I don't use sleep! Oh, well thanks for trying. I am curious if you can tell if the ethernet on your Wind is going at 1000X or 100X?

I am just trying see if maybe I have a defective board or if people just don't expect much from the RTL8111. At first I thought maybe it was just the Mac driver I had for it but I fired up linux and have the same results.

Regarding, sleep, to each their own, I guess. Personally, I find it very useful and use sleep a lot. Part of the reason is I am trying to be a little green. The other is that I tend to work non-linearly, have lots of different windows up, and some of the tasks take multiple days. So I like to come back in a state where I left off.

But in this case not having it isn't such a big deal as it won't be my main computer and its power consumption is so low.

I can't really tell much about the ethernet speed as mine is running through a 10x hub. I've heard others complain about this also, so you are probably right. I'm currently trying to get an older OS installed on the CF card and it's wreaking havoc on my Vista bootloader. :( I was trying to put Win98se on the card and I'm having all kinds of problems. May just scrap the idea and use a Linux distro instead.

Well I got my system running again, I had to reformat and start from scratch. My guess is that a sata cable came loose and wrote garbage to the drive. when I removed my boot drive and mounted it on my mac it came up with errors and as read only. This could be a drive going south so I'll just watch it.

Got My miglia Firewire soundcard today. I love it. I had a question if someone knows more about these than me. I have my com speakers on channel 1/2. I'd like to put my TV on 3/4 (at the same time) is that possible using the rear outputs? I can use the headphone monitor on the front no problem, but its cleaner out the back. Any way to trick OSX into thinking stereo is Quadrophonic?

Just a side note if anyone is an xbox gamer. It is now possible to use the P35-DS3L onboard sata chipset (ICH9) to flash the drives :)

Just use Windows XP 32bit and get jungleflasher, and set your SATA native mode to disable so it is in legacy mode, then follow this http://www.se7ensins.com/forum...ing-jungleflasher.html for a BenQ or Samsung - lite-ons obviously need the ck3 or xtractor. It takes about 4 clicks and you can do it all in windows.

Whew, I've read through all 65 pages! (not every single post :) ) What a great job!

Is there a new thread specifically for the UD3P motherboard?

Excellent guide! I tried three different methods today and this is the only one that let me update to 10.5.6 without a kernel panic. I have OS X running on my Dell Mini and it works well, but it really flies on my Core 2 Quad. I do have a few minor issues though:

1. It seems like the bootloader didn't get installed on the HD. I just get a flashing cursor after POST if I try to boot directly from the HD. I have to boot from the Boot132 CD or flash drive in order to boot. Can this be easily fixed?
2. I dual boot with Vista and the clock is off when go back to Vista. I read that this is because of how they set the time differently based on UTC. Is there a patch to fix it? I might just end up changing the time zone in one OS.
3. I used the kX driver to get my Audigy 2 Platinum eX to work. The speaker jack on the card only outputs sound through the right channel. However, the headphone jack on the external drive outputs stereo correctly.

I am having a little trouble installing my second hard drive. The bios is recognising the 2nd HD perfectly well. But when I am in OSX my program only recognises the first harddrive. Anybody with with a good suggestion? Thanks

Have you checked in Disk Utility to make sure it shows up in there? You might just have to format it.

Kaido:

Got my Miglia. So far, so good. More interestingly, my PCI FW card works just fine. I don't know to get more detailed info for it, but I vaguely remember when it was installed under windows it being a TI chipset card. So if that helps your Wiki HCL any, there ya go!

Thanks for the tip on the rack. It looks great -- nicer than my old Herc Game Theater XP rack -- on one side of my monitor, with my awesome macmall enclosure on the other. Hey, just because the computer is in an Antec case doesn't mean my desktop can't look sexy.
