-Leopard installation (a few different methods using BOOT-132)
-System configuration notes
-Downloads (small Windows package with ImgBurn, BootCD, and Memtest86+, a Mac package, an "Extras" kit with more useful apps, and Software Starter Kits)
-Video tutorials

Upgrade guide?

This thread has gotten a bit confusing...I'm not even sure where my install rates as far as methods go. So it might be good to start a new one.

Yeah, the January thread will be for the UD3P. But procedures for both the UD3P & DS3L will be on the wiki. Things constantly evolve with this project, that's what I love about it (and hate sometimes too, haha). The next version may have VoodooPower in place of OpenHaltRestart if it works well on the DS3L

I can't. I am already using all of my sata ports.

I haven't found any cheap cards that will give you extra SATA ports. Best I've found is like a 4-port HighPoint RAID card that you can use as individual disks for around $110 iirc.

Thanks. I am not after a sata card though. I will give it a go later but I just want to leave my IDE dvd drive connected although have IDE disabled in BIOS and see if it messes with the system or not.

A good PCI card for the wiki is the Asus WL-138G V2 - they sell here in Aus for about $20 and work 100% with osx and are recognised instantly - it didn't work with 10.5.0 but from 10.5.4 and up it has worked wonders.

See, um, that made no sense to me! But hopefully I'll back-up [somehow] soon and install 10.5.6.

Just thought I would confirm another working 10.5.6 install. Installed it on my girlfriends today, once again had to go to system preferences and change output from headphones to line out.

Did I miss the 10.5.5 -> 10.5.6 upgrade instructions? People keep talking over me ("Just delete DSDT and install Taruga!") and I have no idea what they're talking about.

Or, actually, I have a mild idea, I'm just not completely sure.

if you have DSDT it will be when you open your Mac HDD directory called DSDT.aml I think. Taruga is just the audio patch which is in kaido/weaksauces package in the installation directory then audio. After you download the 10.5.6 combo update (i.e. that is the ~600mb one) install it - restart then do the audio step again (drag the .txt file to the frog or is it a lizard ? icon).
What leglez said about going into system preferences> sound I had to change my line out from headphones to line out.

10.5.6 is fine. Everything is working on my install and have had no issues at all (just the audio thing which i didnt think to check the output setting in system preferences)

p.s. your install method won't really matter. If you have the new chameleon and the uinstaller app reapply the kernals after 10.5.6 update and that you have the newest chameleon installed and you should be fine and fully up to date. No need to reinstall the whole system because version 2.0 of the package came out, I wouldn't assume. Unless there was some major change.

I just installed the combo patch, rebooted, dragged the audio thingee over the other audio thingee, rebooted again, and everything seems to be working fine. Although that stupid password thing isn't working still. Boo.

What is your password problem exactly? I'll see if it works on my system.

Kaido, just wanted to say thanks for the work and the guide itself. The package is wonderful, the organization behind everything is great. It's a shame that the insanelymac forums are such a mess, (except for your thread and a few others).

I'm planning on putting together a box with the ud3p board, and I'm stuck on video card choices. I've read from you and others that Nvida cards are good, but to stay away from the 512meg ones. Does this still hold true?

I'm trying to get in around 100 bucks.. there's a popular MSI 9600 512mb on newegg.. It seems to me that this is supported, but because the insanelymac wiki is so old and the board is tough to search, I'm not sure. If it isn't, is there a card that you know to work well with your setup in that price range?

Nvidia cards are great. I would avoid any 512mb cards and any ATI cards. Post in the Graphics sub-forum about your card:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showforum=151

Make sure you have a driver before ordering and, if possible, make sure that your specific make/model of graphics card is supported. Video cards can be VERY finicky in Hackintosh, I've had to do a lot of research even on the cheap cards I've purchased. On my new Wiki I'm working on, I have a place for support video cards on our board, that way we can have up-to-date information.

I sure wish the OSx86 project was more organized, it would be so much better that way, but there's new developments almost daily so it's super hard to keep up. You kind of have to pick your battles and stick with one method that you know works for your setup. Beyond the BOOT-132 method I use, there's other goodies coming out like the Voodoo kernel and more. This can really be a full-time hobby if you let it :D

Let it, how can you not? It takes over your life, your home and all your time! Pretty soon you are looking at a new dishwasher and wondering how hard it would be to hack it for Leopard...

I think maybe it's time to take a break so I am downloading the Windows 7 beta. That should good for some comic relief. :D

Haha yeah. My UD3P is staying at 10.5.5 for the next couple of years, unless the Snow Leopard hack is really fantastically awesome.

Not that 10.5.6 really improves anything that I can see, but the UD3P can be updated to 10.5.6 from Software Update right after initial install without a hiccup. Installing my second one of these right now! :D

Kaido,
What's the word with the 2 purple JMicron eSATA ports on the UD3P? I was thinking they wouldn't work (from an earlier post of yours about drivers for it) but I plugged a drive into the eSATA and they works perfectly. In System Profiler I've got the Intel ICH10R AHCI and JMicron AHCI showing up, and the JMicron controller says 3 Gigabit AHCI Version 1.00 Supported.

Is there a problem with the JMicron controller? Because thus far it works flawlessly as near as I can tell. Speed seems great. Been copying files back and forth without issue.

This board is truly awesome- unless there's some unforeseen issue, it's got 8 working SATA ports.

Nope works fine. Turns out you need JmicronATA v.1 + LegacyJmicronATA. It's in my DS3L thread, final package and all. I just haven't had time to write up instructions. That's the killer - documentation.

Noticed on your blog you have a plug in for the MSI Wind PC, where are you hiding it? I looked where you posted the Atom kit but didn't see anything for the Wind PC. I used the Atom kit to set mine up, what other changes did you make to the Wind PC plug in? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

I thought it worked pretty good, couldn't see any need for anything else. Now if I could just find a good use for it.
