There's plenty of other countr-, er, guides out there as well as developer tools, kexts, EFI strings, dsdt files, etc. if you want to try a DIY system ;)

But in all seriousness we're on track for a Saturday release. Inspiration hit with the Thanksgiving release and has blossomed into a multitude of wonderful tools. DS3L Plugin v1.0 is completed and now it's just a matter of finishing the developer tools, writing the remaining sections of the guide, and recording the video tutorial. Mixed in with my finals this week, of course. lol.

I was completely joking, but I totally hear you on having it spiral. Sounds like you're putting a lot of time into enhancing it, which everyone will appreciate.

I went w/ your last guide, and everything's been running great. Took a couple of installs before I realized I could run 10.5.5, but had to disable IDE, reinstall the kext, and then re-enable it. Other than that and using EFIStudio for the nvidia string, it's been smooth sailing. Definitely appreciate the time you put into this.

As I said before, I wouldn't feel right downloading a hacked OS distro, but being able to install the retail disc has been great. Definitely buying a Macbook in the next couple of months as a result.

I can't believe you're doing this during finals, but I will admit I definitely lost some time studying for mine to fool with this stuff :)

IDE is completely out in the final guide. Zero IDE support. Every kext and configuration I tried gave me problems, every single one. I've ditched it. So the caveats for the new guide are:

1. Don't migrate from a Hackintosh (manual re-install)
2. No onboard IDE, Parallel, or Serial - period.
3. Ethernet takes 10 seconds to wake from sleep.

Thanks for the answer haha I am not sure why that posted there. I was trying to PM that to someone and it somehow ended up in a post.

1. Don't migrate from a Hackintosh (manual re-install)
2. No onboard IDE, Parallel, or Serial - period.
3. Ethernet takes 10 seconds to wake from sleep.

Two things:

1). I know I ask this every time, but forgive me: Any reason for people (i.e. me) to change/update their installs? Or are we set?

2). I would mention IDE in passing; i.e. provide the kext, but not in an install capacity, but as something to move files over temporarily. I had 100s of gigs of files (mp3s, photos, etc) on IDE drives, and it was nice to hang them off my hack install, and move them over, and then remove the drive and kext. It works fine for that, it seems.

As for my install, here's what I've noticed:

1). My video sometimes flickers (blacks out, and the comes back). And when it wakes from sleep, it cycles a couple of times, but that may be the display.

2). The 2408 is just as hard to calibrate as rumored. I still don't have it set right. Help!?

3). The sleep then shutdown thing.

4). I'd assume the video bug with ethernet unplugged still exists, but who the hell has their ethernet unplugged?

I just noticed that my hack won't prompt me for a password when I quit a screen saver, even though I turned that on in the prefpanes. Why?

Leopard has some known issues with that, not just a Hackintosh thing.

Try logging off then back on, then see if you get the password prompt.

There's a permanent fix floating around somewhere, but I don't remember what it is off hand.

When Leopard asks for my name & address for registration and so forth, is it a bad idea to enter them? Ie, will there be some trouble when I try to register a computer with Apple that isn't really a Mac?

I'm not using Kaido's guide exactly, but I'm doing a boot-132 retail install.

I have never registered, there isn't really a benefit to it since our hacks are not under warranty through apple anyways. just apple+q it and hit skip.

I've found a distro that will work on my laptop, but I can't figure out how to partition my HDD. I don't have a backup so I don't want to risk trying to partition 10 GB and then losing my whole windows install. I went into the OS X install and went to disk utility and was trying to figure out how to partition, but when I clicked on the HDD that showed up and chose 2 partitions, it looked like it was going to delete EVERYTHING and create 2 fresh partitions.

So yeah, how do I go about partitioning this so it actually works? Right now I deleted the EISA partition on my laptop which provided me with 10 GB, but it is now unallocated space. Should I add it to my Vista partition to make it easier, or should I leave it unallocated?

I'm so confused! :(

I've been following this thread for a couple weeks now, and I'm pretty psyched about Saturday. That said, I almost purchased the parts for a Media Center Rig as described in the very beginning. Before I do, is there a new recipe I should take into account first?

Thanks!

If I was you I would first partition the drive in vista, maybe something like this might help you http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=PZQazg9I33w

Or google: shrink current partition in vista, or something similar.
Once you have done that, get a program called macdrive and install it then use that to format the partition you want leopard on. It can format HFS+ (as in the leopard format) in windows, it will also allow you to read/write to your leopard partition once you get it going.

Then go through the install with iDeneb - it should show up straight away the current leopard partition. So install onto that.

Gigabyte MicroATX board with 9400 is being tested on Insanely. Might want to wait for that. Smaller size & HDMI onboard.

Has anyone else had trouble with Chameleon? I can't even get the disk image to open. I tried it onmynew Hackintosh, and also on myemac with 10.3.9, and neither will open it.

I see the caveat on the first page that driver package will only work with the P35-DS3L. I just purchased a GA-EP45-UD3P, which apparently is similar. Will this motherboard work as well?

Thanks.

Nope! This driver package works on the DS3L - P35 and EP35 boards only. HOWEVER, the 1-Click tool is completely extendable, so you can create your own plugin (we just added a Plugin Maker!) using Kexts for your board. Should be fairly easy :)

I got it installed successfully with Kalyway, but there is little to no support for my components for some odd reason. Apparently, wifi and ethernet don't work, and it won't recognize my laptop's keyboard. The sound doesn't work, my webcam doesn't work, and my graphics drivers aren't recognized.

I've a long way to go to get this system in working order.

Ugh.
