Will an IDE DVD Drive work? I have an IDE-SATA Adapter, but I tried it once with a hdd in OSX and it didn't work so I have my doubts with it.
Also is there anyway to install the boot 132 onto the flash drive without windows? Any OS X applications that will do it?
If I upgrade the bios from F6 to F7 will it mess up my current OS X install?
Also are there any internal spots to put the flash drive maybe on the motherboard? Or would I have to just plug it in the back?
Theoritically yes, you can use the IDE-SATA adapter with the IDE DVD drive, but in practice people have gotten mixed results. Best thing to do with an IDE device is to throw it into a USB enclosure. Unfortunately, the JMicron driver for IDE is extremely buggy and not only causes extremely slow performance, but also intermittent kernel panics. It's not a big deal though, a new SATA drive is only $25 from Newegg (20x Dual-Layer CD/DVD burner with Lightscribe no less), which is probably cheaper than getting a USB enclosure.
No, the bootloader is based on Syslinux, which is a special version of Linux designed to run on Windows. This allows us to install the bootloader quickly and easily using DOS under Windows. The assumption, I supposed, was that most Hackintoshers were migrating from Windows (which makes sense). However, you CAN format it in a Windows XP Virtual Machine, so if you're using VMware or Parallels it's no problem.
No, it won't mess up your current OS X install - in fact, you might as well upgrade to F8 now that it's out of beta - it supports more processors now too.
Just plug the USB stick in the back. You can buy a USB plug that fits on the internal USB headers, they're a bit rare to find but they do exist. You can also buy a USB-to-Headers cable for $5 or $10 if you really want to stick it inside. I supposed you could also get one of those 6-port USB PCI cards that has 2 of the USB ports inside the case and stick it on there, that might work.
Also, don't use Migration Assistant or Time Machine restore to migrate your old Hackintosh install to the BOOT132 installation - it will screw everything up. Gotta do it manually, by hand.
