Hacking...

Assuming i'm running XP with Sp2 and firewall up, all correctly configured and updates (which i'm not 😉 ) and i run Microsoft antispy everynight (scheduled), antivir once a week (scheduled) how easy would this me, is it even possible?

(If you can, please don't 😉 )

new patches for vulnerabilities in SP2 were just released last week, so yes, there are probably undiscovered vulnerabilities on your PC that could be exploited and someone take you out.

Yes it is possible. All OSs have security issues, even macs. EVEN installing sp2 +antivir software and having a firewall won't fix all of them or prevent hackers from taking control over your PC.

are you behind a hardware firewall, or the one that microsoft packs with sp2?

Also why would someone waste their time with your computer?

Anything is possible, what you describe here would be a simple feet for lots of people. Running spyware and anti-virus software is completely irrelevant, and the built in Firewall for SP2 is utterly useless, might as well turn it off, it accomplishes the same thing. Get a Hardware Firewall, software firewalls are all vulnerable, Windows built in POS just happens to be 99.9% useless.

YOu can never be completely safe.... but a HW firewall and a sound internet usage can go a long way....

just sp2 firewall, router has one but i don't think it's on...

i was just wondering if it would be possible really...i can't see anyone bothering targeting me with the 333mhz lappy i'm running while my main rig is out of action 😉

i'm behind a hardware (cheap dlink) and software (sp2) firewall. No one will control my computer and take away my Aria Giovanni pr0n!!

Short answer yes.

Laptop? Wireless router? Have you thought about them not coming through the internet side of the router?

Our wireless router has security on (just low level WEP IIRC), so unless someone was pretty keen i can't see them coming in that way 😉

its kinda worrying that someone could just hack you, but has it actually ever happened to someone on ATOT?

any security can be worked around if someone really wants to and spends enough money on their equipment, , computer, car, home, etc.....

however if u enable the remote control facility on WinXP then i can use your computer before your very eyes.....mucho fun that feature...hehe
helped a friend out with his soundcard problem using that cuz he uses it to play CS:S but has no idea how a puter works..lol

but seriously, i just checked and my dlink router has the firewall up and properly configured, and my main rig has the SP2 firewall up, so i assume i'm invincible 😀 (or at least plenty tough enuff for a private user 😉 )?

Attackers don't care who you are. Most of them just want more zombie computers to add to their botnets.

The average time from plugging your Windows XP system into the Internet and being attacked is currently 15 minutes.

It's definitely possible. New threats come out every day--see the Internet Storm Center at http://isc.sans.org/ to keep up. Microsoft's patches are typically for threats that have been out there for a few months.

Not only can your computer be hacked, but I actually hacked into your brain and made you post this thread. Scary huh? The Matrix has you.

tin foil beanies help prevent the haxor. Put one on your monitor.

One on the mouse wouldn't hurt either...the and haxor it's link to the pc and make it bite.
