i'm at this site allows u to dl wma files rather than mp3 files. catch is they force you to acquire some license for the very first time u open each wma file.
i would like to convert this file into mp3 format, how do you do this??? i can't since its protected by some license, some code embedded in the file
how can i hack this??

You can spend a couple of weeks elsewhere to think about whether this is more important than your membership on our forums.

Posting a HOWTO here would mean AnandTech can be sued. This is not a matter of 'You did it too!', this is a matter of AT not allowing stuff like this.

think that the register posted a news article about this a while ago, the news article mentioned a program that cracked the files, so its possible to crack them 🙂

Agree!

There was a program called un****.exe (replace **** with everyones favorite four letter word)

Anyways, it only worked fion version 6 or lower WMA files.

I dont think there's anything out now.

BTW.. I don't see why you should be banned when theres like five "Whats your favorite place
to download MP3's" or "Kazza vs. audiogalaxy" threads everyday

Kazaa or Audiogalaxy themselves are not illegal. It is possible to use them for legal purposes. If someone does not do that that is personal choice, but AT can't be sued over a discussion of a legal program. Same with downloading mp3s, there are paysites, there are legally downloadable mp3s.

Had he asked 'Have WMA files been hacked yet?' it would not have been a problem. What he does though is asking for someone to supply a tool to hack protected files. Basically the difference between 'Think it would be possible to get close enough to the US President to kill him?' and 'I want to kill Bush tomorrow, anyone got hints on what to look out for?'. The first is a strange but legal question, the second implies you are going to do something illegal (no matter how positive).
