Stunning.

I thought vote fixing was just conspiracy but after watching this it's obvious there's a rat.

And JMHO, but why don't we make vote tampering a treasonous offense?

I haven't watched that video, but I have heard quite a bit about it, and have heard from many election officials and vendors that it has several things wrong, and that HBO has acknowledged such.

<EDIT>

On that note, there are quite a few things wrong with elections in this nation, that need to be fixed... I just think that people are attacking it from the wrong end.

Thumbs up to HBO for exposing the gross (IMO criminal) negligence regarding electronic voting in our country.

Innumerable numbers of lives have been sacrificed by our country to protect our democracy and freedom. How sad is it that the companies and politicians behind electronic voting have made such a joke of such sacrifices?

why does this have to be so long :) i'll watch it sometime this week...

however, i feel if that stuff in there is in fact shocking and LEGIT, it would be more hugely widespread news rather than just an HBO special

Funny. I had heard that the vendors were angry about it saying there were errors - and HBO held their ground.

And if you watch the film, you'd notice that unless they absolutely lied about 15 times in a row, they perform a hack right in front of your eyes.

``We stand by the film,'' HBO spokesman Jeff Cusson said in an interview. ``We have no intention of withdrawing it from our schedule. It appears that the film Diebold is responding to is not the film HBO is airing.'' HBO is a unit of Time Warner Inc.

Please don't inject doubt where none should be.

Ummm...if HBO acknowledged that there were inaccuracies, why does he need to watch it to point that out? (edit: I don't know if HBO did or didn't...just pointing this out)

These machines are pathetic. They willfully violate so many well-established concepts in computer security. Why in God's name would they put executable code on the memory card that's supposed to hold votes?

Anyone else kinda get an eyeroll out of Bev Harris just sort of stumbling over unsecured Diebold FTP access with Google? That doesn't seem that plausible to me. I'm not calling shens on this or anything, but that's not really settling with me. I wish they had explained it a little better than "Hey, she found it through this obscure website."

Screwing up access to an FTP server is pretty obvious to an expert. Maybe they had some low end tech who wasn't familiar with what he was doing set it up and he/she really screwed the pooch.

It's not impossible to stumble onto someone's FTP server with full access. Some people simply don't fully know what they are doing. Having worked at a help desk and having dealt with both users and our own technicians there is not much that can shock me these days.

It's a lot harder for the average person, even with some research, to break into a secure FTP server than for some idiot to simply give full access to everyone to the FTP server through a website.

Besides your argument is a non-issue since the company even admited that it was freely available on their site. If you watched the video, watch it again when they get scolded by the Cali gov.

They should have a list of everyone who voted and have who they voted for next to tha their name.

If they dont want to give a name then everyone should be assigned a number.

That way we can easily calculate the vote.

The flip side of that is also shocking. What does it mean if it is legit, or at the very least presents the possibility of vote counting problems, but no major news outlets are covering it at all?

God damn gold brick election public employees to afraid of losing their do nothing 360 days a year job to do a proper recount in Ohio! They preselected the 3% sample to recount so it would match the general result and they wouldn't have to do a full recount.

Diebold eventually admitted the FTP left open was their problem. Not a big shocker, They arent good at windows security at all. Trust me on this one.

Oh yes, we do nothing at all up here in Ohio. *THAT* is why I've been working 10-14 hours per day, 6 days per week, doing as much as I possibly can, JUST to get ready for the election. YOU try conducting an election some time, it's not a "do nothing 360 days a year job".

I mean i think we all understand, and know well enough that these systems are hackable. Of course they are, anything is just about hackable, and usually the government has no idea. We should also understand that the people making these systems do have political views, and they do have personal gains. All of this is defiantly possible.

But what this video fails to do is give a solution. There is no solution given.

So that is what needs to be done, u can muckrake andmuckrake and muckrake, but if you don't give a solution, what are u doing?

I think it is almost going to be impossible for us to use computers for voting because of the huge hacking/piracy society these days.

And if we were to use computers, there is got to be a way so that no one can change things (cough no EXE on the damn memory card), it has to be done well, very, very well through endless testing.

Haha, i found it ironic that in congress the voting for yay or nay was done by "electronic voting" haha.
