Sure, weak password and security questions, got it. But it's not as "simple" as they took raunchy photos and inadvertently shared them where someone could readily obtain them.

I say public server because regardless of password protecting your folder, it's still a server where there is a risk. Other people are managing the server, and can very well look at, obtain, and copy your files.

TMZ is saying the FBI are investigating if this was all done using simple phishing. I have two emails from "Apple" asking me to "verify my account" in my spam folder right now.

Yep, I've had some of those as well.

Some of the phishing schemes *have* to be more than just broad nets cast. They are very focused. I've made changes to my old Wells Fargo banking accounts and a day or two later gotten a phishing scheme to the email I use for that bank posing as Wells Fargo.

Same thing with Citi card after I've made account updates. It's more than coincidence that I get them.

I used to work for Ameritrade (online stock broker) on their tech support side and swore for the better part of a year and bitched weekly to their IT dept that their email database was compromised and the answer was always "it's fine". I knew it was because I owned my own domain and created an address *specifically* for creating an account on their website. A few days later that account was getting bombarded by hundreds of stock tips SPAM. Somebody was actively scraping their email lists and using it to spam stock stuff.

A year after I left there they finally came forward saying that some of their data had been compromised. But it took them forever to finally figure it out/confess it.

I'm certain that other major companies have similar breaches that are being used for focused phishing exploits.

Is it possible a sole philanderer, or a group of philanders targeted these women and no hacking was involved?

That's probably true and it's even more targeted than you're getting at. If people get a hold of the emails of stars, they can personalize phishing attempts and prey on their egos. They're "stars", after all, why wouldn't they be contacted personally by employees of the company? And of course it would be more dangerous for stars, so they better give over private info to protect themselves.

TMZ is reporting the celebs may have been hacked by phishing. They said that an E-mail was sent to them and tricked them into give out there info for their account on apple. The FBI is looking into it and I hope they found out that it was from the phishing. Jennifer Lawrence and her blaming every one else but herself would be just icing on the cake if it is found out to be true.
