We have a hacked 360 at work and I brought in my copy of MLB2K10 and it says that an update is required to play the game. If I install the update will it mess up the firmware and the ability to play backed up games?

Thanks!

Well I tried to update the console and after it reboots I still get the same message saying the update needs to be done.

it just keeps restarting saying the update needs to be done. Any idea what is going on here?

I'm not sure what you're expecting people to tell you. It's not working because you're not using the official firmware. I wonder if the game has some anti-piracy/firmare detecting measures.

That has nothing to do with it. There are no firmware checks except for XBL.

OP: go over on xbox-scene and explain the problem. I'm sure someone ha an answer for you.

Took the hdd out and the game worked perfectly. When the hdd is in the game won't play. Is there a way to play with the HDD in there so we can save our stats, games, etc?

Interesting. I've been playing MLB2k10 (retail) with a hacked firmware and it never applied any update...

are you moving the hard drive amongst this modded and a non-modded console?

if the modded one is banned, and you save data to the HDD from the modded 360, it will corrupt the hdd.

it can be recovered on a non-modded console however.

but there is a chance your hdd is in the 'corrupt' state which may be causing these weird issues.

nope, the hdd has only been used on that hacked 360. The console or hdd does not leave the building.

I bought the console used and banned from XBL so I really don't know how it was flashed or with what firmware. How do I update it to the latest and greatest firmware? Can it be done with a USB stick or burned media or do I have to open the box up and hook the SATA cable to a PC?

Have to open it up and the process varies depending on which drive you have.

Updating your firmware will not help with the update IMHO. There is some other problem going on here.

There is a fix (but it requires a bit of work) to get the banned consoles to use HDDs properly. Also, I don't think updates work on them still.

The fix requires you to solder wires to make a port and dump the firmware data (takes like 45 minutes unless you have the internal memory card one, then it is like 4+ hours), using a hex editor to edit the firmware, then reflashing it to the MB. Now, your HDD will work on a banned console. Perfect!

You can no longer, however, unban consoles due to a dashboard fix that no longer allows you to get or edit the CPU key.

This isn't that problem. The problem is when moving that HDD to another non-banned xbox you can't read game saves and you're unable to play games which are ripped to the HDD. He can't install an update required for a game.

Yeah I'm not really interested in getting that hdd to work on anything but that console.

I really just want to run the update from the game so that we can play the game with the hdd attached.

On a side note, it's possible to load an entire game on the hdd and play directly off of it instead of using a disc?

not possible on a banned console cause it corrupts the hdd.

OP, let this serve as a lesson. You shouldn't use hacked Xbox 360s. They don't work. Plus it's illegal.

What are you talking about? The system works fine aside from playing MLB2K10 with the hdd in it. Its more of a convenience issue then anything else. Do we really care that much about saving our stats? Not really - its more of a controller setup (remembering our prefs) then anything else.

For the price we paid for the system it has more then paid for itself with the endless hours we have been playing our own backed up games without worrying if one was to disappear or get ruined.

Which part is not possible?

Storing games on the HDD of a hacked console is not possible.
