You can do the math yourself, just take 25% of your defense money and see how much attack it would get you. Then see how much money you would have to make in attacks to pay for it.

It could move you up really fast if you knew who to hit, but if you messed up and didn't get enough profit it would ruin it.

That's a good strategy until you're ranked in the low 300's. I'm not so sure it's a good strategy around where I'm at. Eventually, after you've upgraded your virus enough, the amount of credits you get per tick is significant enough that you're better off limiting the number of people who can attack you by having high mhz.

However, SSSnail's strategy seems to be to keep the kbps really high and attack people towards the top - as high as he can attack anyhow. That seems to be paying off, as I've seen he occasionally gets 6-figure attacks. However, I don't know where he's ranked, how many computers he's got, etc. I think his strategy might limit him in the long run.

The largest determining factor of rank is virus level. He has a low virus level, so his rank is comparatively low.
 
Man...I have been getting shit all day...250cr here...maybe 1k there. Yesterday I got some decent hits but not so lucky today.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking for when I choose a target?

Should I be hitting online or offline players?...does it really matter?

noticed that about 80k had gone missing from my coffers, though still had 50k sitting around. made those^ runs and promptly upgraded to lvl 5 virus by selling only ~4k kbps.

I wish I could downgrade my virus. The game is hilarious when you don't worry about infected machines and keep your vault large enough to contain the loot from pillaging. 😀
