I'm going to have a side of bacon with every meal I eat today in honor of all my Catholic friends.

I'll pray for your soul when your roasting in hell. 😛
Screw his life in hell, I pity anyone NOW who eats that much swine. 😉

My priest told me the following....
Many years ago... Fish was usually cheaper than meat was, so to "give up something extra" on Fridays durring lent, people would eat fish because it was cheaper. That is why we are supposed to eat fish now... eventhough fish is usually more expensive. Who knows if that is true or not, but it seems believable to me.
To be honest, i do not do it anymore... but rather do something EXTRA for lent and not give something up...exept i try to fast on the important days like ash wed. and good friday.

The story I always heard was that the church wanted to help out the fish industry. So by giving up meat on friday people would buy fish instead.

Sounds interesting. Got a link to either explanation?

Yup. Mine was no booze for Lent.

Last year I went totally vegan for Lent. It sucked 🙁

[Edit] Actually, for the first week, I only ate grits, oatmeal, and rice...but it was mostly because I was sick 🙁

As an atheist, I enjoy our religious holiday observation the most of all...we get to cherry pick the fun ones, and only do the fun parts. 😛

Easter = Candy and fun
Christmas = Capitalist paradise / Celebration of goodwill among men
Uh...that's pretty much it for me... Hanukkah is cool too, and I've never seriously encountered Ramadan, but I guess firing AKs into the air at the end is fun <😛 /racist>

As an athiest? Dude, what you just described is what many Christians do already. 😛
LOL, NS!

BTW as an Athiest, black friday is like the start of Ragnarok for me that doesn't end till Dec 26th.

Forget the AKs. During Ramadan, what you should do is have the best breakfast ever (seriously), work half-ass until about noon, nap all afternoon, then wake up and party past midnight :thumbsup:
