Ha! Take THAT Lent

Usually I don't care too much about observing Lent, but today I decided to be a good Catholic for once and see what meatless creation I could come up with. The result: three egg omlette with mozarella cheese, fresh ground black pepper and chili powder, with a side of hand-made garlic toast. Not too bad if I do say so myself. 😛

Mozzarella cheese and the eggs come from animal, thus are meat according to someone practicing over here. I saw f* it and eat whatever the hell you want.

Ive never understood this: How come on days you cant eat meat, you can eat fish? Dont mean to start any flame wars or anything, just wondering how that works

It never made sense to me either. Maybe one of the more devout Catholics here on ATOT can explain.

Fish 'n' Chips for me. It was a well known fact Jesus LOVED fish 'n' chips 😉

That's true! It says it right there in... something 3:16.

That "someone" who practices over near you doesn't know squat. Just because it comes from an animal doesn't mean its the flesh of the animal.

Eggs =/ meat.
Cheese =/ meat.

umm...its religion...nothing makes sense...

Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook venison steak. But, all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic--and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday.

The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The priest came to visit Bubba and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass---and the Priest sprinkled holy water over him and said, "You were born a Baptist and raised as a Baptist but now you are Catholic."

Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The priest was called immediately by the neighbors.

As the priest rushed into Bubba's yard, clutching a rosary, and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Bubba, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: "You wuz born a deer, you was raised a deer, but now you is a catfish."

I'm going to have a side of bacon with every meal I eat today in honor of all my Catholic friends.

My priest told me the following....
Many years ago... Fish was usually cheaper than meat was, so to "give up something extra" on Fridays durring lent, people would eat fish because it was cheaper. That is why we are supposed to eat fish now... eventhough fish is usually more expensive. Who knows if that is true or not, but it seems believable to me.
To be honest, i do not do it anymore... but rather do something EXTRA for lent and not give something up...exept i try to fast on the important days like ash wed. and good friday.

The story I always heard was that the church wanted to help out the fish industry. So by giving up meat on friday people would buy fish instead.

If eternal damnation is the price I have to pay for porky goodness...then I better work on my tan, because I'm gonna fry!

She is orthodox. They have to eat vegan for the week. :shrugs;

I would never participate in anything that would limit what I wanted to eat for food.

Because as time passed, Christians modified their own beliefs to make it easier on themselves.
