H50 or stock cooler on Intel 980x Extreme

I picked up a H50 at Microcenter but since my system is together and only running 28 c on the stock tower cooler will it be worth it to put the H50 cooler on it. I do plan on overclocking it some at some point just havent had the time. The motherboard is a ASUS P6X58D- Premium.

What are your load temperatures looking like ?

H50 is most likely going to perform better. ( obviously )

I think op has the h50 already, I would record load temps with stock then try it and go with best. It does seem funny to have $1000 CPU with <$100 cooler lol

Actually I have the stock tower cooler on it now that came with it, I picked this up cause I didn't feel like messing with running a full do it yourself water kit. And it never gets above 40 c under load so far.

Is your stock cooler really loud on quiet setting? Audible from the case by a lot?

...

980X and no monster class sink?

Do you intend to overclock this monster cpu at all?

Can i remind u @ 4.2ghz with roughly 1.2-1.3vcore, your cpu can pull well over 200W on just the cpu portion, which can translate in a TON of AMPS being fed into that tiny little 32nm die.

Which can translate into massive heat...

Finish your top tier rig right.. get a real sink.
H7O not H5O... or a meglahem / True.

Whats funny is for some reason I didnt even see the darn H70 there but look online and it says they have 3 so I will take this one back even. Now just have to find room to put this 240GB Revo drive in as well. This is going in a Antec DF-30 case which now I gotta pull out the stock fans as well to fit this so might as well do the H70.

The provided solution for the 980X is OK for stock (including turbo) speeds. When you ratchet up the VCORE, VTT, and speed north of 4GHz, do expect to see scary temperatures indeed! I can keep mine at 1.325V 4.4GHz under 80C on the H70 (LinX 0.6.4) whereas not changing any setting and mounting the stock cooler three cores were over 100C in under two minutes. With the fan on HIGH! 🙄

The temperature increased VERY rapidly indicating the heat output of the overclocked CPU "swamped" the capacity of the heatpipe cooler. This was sitting horizontal on a bench. Mounted in a case it would be even worse.

If you can get the H70 do so! It's a good little cooler.
