BFG, those dips in other places aren't cut scenes ... some are from simple things ... like doors opening ahead of you.

Anyone expecting a GT (even @ 400/1000) to run fluid at 1280/high detail is in for a surprise

I need a new video card for my birthday. I built a new system in June.

XP 3200+
Abit NF-7S v2
512MB Corsair 3200 DDR

But I have a powerhouse Dell OEM Radeon VE 16MB AGP vid card. It does work, and moving around in the opening scenes isn't that bad. But doing a timedemo "demo1" gets me an average fps of 8.4. haha.

RacerX is right anyone expecting to get fluid fps in this game with any card at 1280x res is crazy look at hardocp data what they call acceptable is downright crazy drops in fps to 30 and below is not acceptable, it would not be bad if it ran steady 30 fps but when it just drops from 60 to 30 fps real fast that causes choppyness, and mouse lags. That to me is unacceptable. They say that 9800pro on xp3200 should run on high detail they are crazy. My cpu is a mobile xp2500 @2650 mhz and does not run smooth on high detail. Heck on medium detail you still get the random big drops in fps from 60 to 30 fps. For some reason when you approach a door the dam thing goes crazy and I see no reason that it should. But guess that with 6800 Gt or ultra you should be able to do 1024x768 with 4xfsaa and 8x af at a steady 60 fps now that is acceptable to me. Running a Steady fps thru whole game. Looks like the pci express sli better come out soon for me.

BFG: In UT2004, cutscenes are in-game rendered, and yes, many of them do make systems (at least mine) chug because of how much it renders in comparison to the workload during a level.

I play many games under 60FPS (NWN primarily, but others as well), and they can be as smooth as anything running at 120FPS, it really does depend on the engine.

Yes chsh1a they can be smooth as can be but when it drops so drastically it makes things seem choppy. I have played many games that were hard locked to 30 fps, and grand prix4 was hard locked or maybe 3 was hard locked to like 26fps but it was mooth as silk cause there was not such a big fluctuation in fps. I dont mind if it slow in cut scenes I am not playing so it does not matter, but when you turn and the mouse lags like your playing online cause of big dip in fps its really sucks.

Great game though just had to play lower res to get it more smooth.
