How can a Hardware review site do this ? how can they get away with it? people look to them for info on what video card is best and they blatantly favor 1 brand ...

They contradict every single other hardware review sites on the planet even anandtech.... with there conclusions.

How can they be right and 50 other sites be wrong! i think they should open there eye's and take note the only people they are convincing are noobs who dont visit any other hardware website.

It doesn't matter if 50 hardware sites are saying the same thing.

The only thing that matters is what you have tested and what you can prove based on that.

Everything is not black and white in regards to these new video cards.

Benchmarks are also a joke as they all favour one over the other and even when they don't they can easily be influenced or unknowingly manipulated, just like mainstream hardware sites that continually use the same games for benchmarks.

Which is idiotic.

If I was a shady video card exec the first thing I would do is put in "optimizations" into the next driver release for those games that are generally used on review sites.

That's all good as long as it doesn't impact IQ.

Does it?

Answer me that.

Frankly most reviews of these two video card familes are utter crap. I haven't seen a single proper review of either card family.

You're only going to think a review is the "correct" one, if the results come out to be what YOU wanted them to be. If you want to know if the information is truly correct I suggest you buy both cards and try it yourself

So its a race of optimizations, which company can optimize the most for popular games. I don't have a problem with that cuz I usually play popular games :).

I don't care if they optimize games so long as they don't hurt IQ, which remains to be seen.

Some sites claim it hurts IQ and others that it doesn't.

The only real positive thing to come out of all this mess is that the two companies are now forced to go head to head and neither one can afford a loose.

This means prices will drop and hopefully better drivers will be out for both cards.

Since I still do not have the parts for my computer I may still decide to go with nVidia over ATI but that will depend on which one does D3D graphics better since OpenGL games are not as important to me for my next computer as opposed to D3D. Mostly because I will spend most of my time playing World of Warcraft which uses D3D for its native graphics code and not OpenGL.

ABIT NF7-S, AthlonXP ?Barton? 2500+ @ 1.83GHz,

Can't comment on the supposed bias but thier cpu test bed leaves something to be desired.

 I know literally hundreds of people @2500Mhz+ with these chips. If thier going to test 3.4GHz C which also tons of people have Oced to at least they could do a reprsentative XP benches. who the hell runs a 1.8 processor buying theses high end cards? no one.

Do you mean THIS article?

It is about CPU SCALING - they DO use a different way to measure that they explain (in another article) - it is another tool for us to use . . . or not.

Conclusion:
The X800Pro at one hundred dollars less than the GeForce 6800Ultra was either matching or beating it in game performance.

With the latest 61.34 Forceware driver, the performance of the 6800Ultra is now better than it was initially and we are awaiting another driver release that is said to push GeForce 6 series even higher. In FarCry, 6800Ultra performance is now on par with the X800Pro. In fact, in Flight Sim 2004 we consistently saw the GeForce 6800Ultra match or take the lead from the X800XT-PE, so the performance improvements we?ve seen are promising and do vary game to game as to be expected.

With all this weighing in on a possible buying decision, let us throw one more big issue into the fray. NVIDIA just announced a new SLI technology that will be taken advantage of very soon that could make the GeForce 6800 series "doubly" good.

please QUALIFY your rant.

edit:
They say a 9800XT is faster then a 6800Ultra.
You DO mean the x800? ;)

Where in the article does it say that a 9800xt is faster then a 6800Ultra? Did your intense Nvidia fanboyism cloud your vision and make you misread something?

He has a problem with HardOCP so he has to come here to bash. Anyways if you don't like them why are you visiting the site in the first place?

But his major problem lies in his ability to read, and understand what he's reading :p

because in their new review method, it isn't the max FPS they're looking at, they're looking at the highest rez, with features enabled, that you can get a good solid 'playable' FPS.

I kind of like that testing methodology, especially when they use it with games I am playing, or intend to play in the near future.

I mean honestly, does anybody care what max fps you get in q3a anymore?

If you want same res. just go to the "apples to apples" benchmark.

Ok could you please provide the exact link to the article and the exact sentence where HardOCP states or shows that 9800xt is better than 6800ultra, because I read some of their reviews and have never seen such a reference.

Thanks.
