Gym Motivation

Im 22 and overweight.

In december I got a membership to the gym. I wanted to go and become fit.
Now its April, I havent gone!!!
I will wake up and go to work and want to go to the gym- by the end of the day its just screw the gym.

What motivates you to go to the gym if you do go?
What time of day do you go?

I think for you, the need to not be overweight at 22 is a good motivating factor that you should capitalize on.

Well, I used to force myself to go to the gym after work. However, right now I am bicycling everywhere, even to work (10 mile ride there and 10 mile ride back) so I dont really need to go to the gym at this point.

Just make yourself go I say, once you are in ther gym there is nothing else to do but work out.

Try setting a SPEICFIC goal. Like, I want to lose 10 lbs in one month, or strength goals like increasing your squat/bench max. Setting a specific goal rather than "i need to go to the gym more" will help you motivate yourself. Also, it can help if you can educate yourself more about proper exercise and nutrition so that the task is less daunting.

Why not start by running? If you can't find 30 minutes to take in the beginning of your day to go for a run than your just not ready to get in shape.

I was thinking of biking to work, well to the train station. I work downtown boston and take the subway. Im just affraid someone is going to steal my bike.

I could just buy a pink Huffy, Im sure no one will steal it.

Yeah that sounds good, even a nice long walk at night would be good

Get a good bike lock.

You should go to the gym before work. It makes you feel pretty good for the rest of the day I think. It is a great way to start out your mornings, and also gets you wide awake before work. Also I usually see the majority of people in the mornings working out also.

if you go to the gym, you might meet some regulars who you can hang out with that will motivate you further. and they might be hot too!

Get up earlier in the morning to go before work. One motivator is to look at your flab, take a pinch of fat and just stare at it. I read that in Men's Health...*shrug*

During wrestling, my goals were always like, lose 10 lbs today, 5 lbs tonight, and 3 - 4 lbs in the morning before weigh-ins. Their would be severe punishment involved if I didn't make it :disgust:

That's pretty disgusting, but I guess what works, works....

Always do gym first. Wake up earlier and go to the gym before work.

My motivation is this:

I'm in my 30s. My metabolism has slowed to a crawl. If I stop I'll get chubby, develop type II diabetes and die like my father did.

In short: If I stop, I die.

I dont pinch flab i can grab it

Amused, good point.

Im thinking my lack of desire/motivation to go to the gym is I may have anxiety.
I've never been to the gym so I dont know what to do there I know lift weights, use the treadmill...
But when I pick up 25lbs dumbells and the 15 year old next to me lifting 50lbs with his friends .
I feel like people stare at me or if they are wispering its about me🙁

I guess I have some underlying issues.

One of the best things that you can do is find a workout buddy. Having someone to go with makes getting there so much easier.

agreed. this is a good way to get in the habit.

i leave my house for the gym 2x/week before 5AM
(e.g., before work) & i'm there at opening time on saturday (7AM).
the gym isn't crowded at those times, for one thing.

motivations: i want to be stronger; i've been doing it for years;
i want to deadlift 600 lbs. & then some.

OP - you could ask one of the gym assistants to show you
a few things & plan a workout if you can't find an
experienced workout partner.

It's the ladies for me.

The first year of going to the gym I went with friends so that it was more fun. Now I go just out of habit, and I really have nothing better to do.

Best way? Look at all the hot girls you are sleeping with. Come to terms with the fact that even if you are a goofy looking dork, there are still hot girls that will be happy to sleep with a goofy looking muscular dork. 1 year of hardcore working out = hot chicks galore.

🙂
