Debanshee,

I'm watching the PBS frontline peice on the histories of gore and bush, very informative:) It does give a more accurate impression of the candidates.

I just saw on the news an interview of GW on July 30,1997 where in front of his wife he stated he hadn't had a drink in 11 years.

We saw him alledgedly drunk at a wedding of one of his friends in 1994.

Fuzzy Math?

Fuzzy alcoholic brain.

You all go out and vote for this joke. You deserve him.

Yep! Drink occasionally now. Nothing for weeks at a time. Wedding receptions or ? and I'll have a few beers. AA is a bunch of weak minded folks that cry on each others shoulders. They seek to perpetuate themselves with physco-babble.

I am so sorry I dissed you before, Tominator. You are so sad. Sooo sad. I have a couple of close, dear friends who are recovering alcoholics, and they both said they would pray for you. You need help badly. Any person who says they are an alcoholic, and they drink, has lost touch with reality.

Tom:

If it works for you, great. My hat's off to anyone who has kicked alcohol. My father was an alcoholic and I don't think an alligator could have held him any tighter.

I don't think all alcoholics need to abstain. I know the research indicates otherwise, but I know several guys who've kicked the drinking problem and still have an occasional drink.

I also think you deserve a pat on the back for being so honest about it.

I'mTyping:

That was over the top and needlessly cruel. Politics is one thing, but personal battles with alcohol, drugs, depression, or whatever deserve our support and encouragement.

Unless the guy is running for public office...! :p

chess9 Thanks for the words of encouragement!

My Father has NEVER taken a drink of any kind to my knowledge. I'll never fit in his shoes, but he raised me to do and think for myself! That is true freedom! I decry no one for going to AA meetings. I just have never said " I can't'". I did, you can!

It's " I can't--He can--I think i'll let him" In reference to surrenduring to a higher power than self to solve your problems. Applicable for all situations, as a way of life, not just to aid in admission of ones inability to stop drinking by will power alone.

Good luck on your staying sober and in control. Few do.

I'll dipute these statements, even though I wont beleive they are even tru until I see the proof myself. Just because you put them in wuotes, doesnt mean they are true. because you dont have reference, i tend to believe that are false, as in innocent until proven guilyy.

<LIE: "He (Gore) has accepted more contributions than I for this election."
FACT: GW's campaign has almost 200 million in it's coffers to Gore's 177 million.>

Even in this sentence, contributions could be either amount of mouney or amount of donors. It could also be money or donors as related to a political partys (DNC, RNC) or to the candidate themselves. The above doesnt prove anything, even if the numbers are true, and I do believe that in total the Bush campaign has more money.

<LIE:.."I stopped drinking over 10 years ago."
FACT: GW is filmed drinking at a party in 1994. This film is available to anyone who wants to see it; do a search on my previous threads to find the link.>

In reference to acohol abuse, stopping drinking means being not dependant on achohol. Having a drink now and again, is not by almost anybodies standard the same as not quiting achohol abuse.
Also you have not proved that drink even conatined any alcohol.

<LIE "You can use whatever numbers you want, we care about children in Texas."
FACT: Medicare spending for poor children dropped by almost half in Texas under bushlite, while the richest persons in the state received big tax cuts. He basically gave almost a billion dollars to his buddies, while poverty stricken children went without medicare coverage.>

The truth is that you cannot prove by numbers that you care about children. I spend more on my house than I do for health care for my son, in no way does that mean I dont care for my son than I do my house. All the numbers prove is what you spend on them. Texas is much differnet than the rest of the US, it shares a huge border with mexico, has huge non-citizen population, it has a large transient population. It is also vast in territory. Medical care is often obtained across the border because is incredibly cheaper there, much less than medical insurance is in the US, there are health clinics in Texas, and to my understanding nobody is denied health care in Texas. Not everybody has health insurance, that doesnt mean that they cant get health care.

<LIE: "There is less pollution in Texas now than when I took over as governor."
FACT: "Air (and water) pollution in Texas has become so bad in the last 4 years that the state government had to hire a lobbyist to go to Washington to try to get federal pollution regulations eased, so that Texas could continue to receive federal highway funds.>

Two things, my understanding is that Texas is working to clean up the pollution, and has reduced it by some small amount. Second, what I read was that only in Ozone pollution, was Houston worse than LA. (no link, but i may see if I can dig that up)
A third thing, you know who he inherited that mess from, dont you?

<LIE: "I believe in giving back some of the money to the people who pay the bills."
FACT: While bushlite reduced the tax burdens of the richest Texans, he also INCREASED the property taxes in Texas to help make up for the loss in revenue. Hey, property owners pay the bills, too!>

There is no income tax in Texas, never has been. Most of the money is raised by sales and property taxes. Most of the property in Texas has increased in value, and that alone would raise the taxes. I dont know if he could actually raise property taxes, because they are set by local assesors.

<The question that needs answering is: do you want to vote for a candidate that lies about things that happen in his personal life, or do you want to vote for a person who lies about what he does as a legislator?>

No and you left out that Gore besides being a liar, a bad liar at that, is also a rude, ill-mannered jerk. I'd be ashamed if my son acted as badly as Gore does, I wouldnt want an ass like Gore as my neighbor, friend, or to represent me to the world as my president.

<< even if you think Bush is better than Gore you'll still have to hold your nose when you pull the Lever for Bush in the Polling Booth >>

Red,

The stink is about the same with either choice. I'm not worried about the initial stink. I'm more concerned about the 4 year dump that awaits me afterward.

<MrChicken,Admit it, even if you think Bush is better than Gore you'll still have to hold your nose when you pull the Lever for Bush in the Polling Booth.>

We actually have touch screens for voting here, when I moved here was expecting to have use a carved potatoe (lol) with an X on it.

Really, GW is not my ideal candidate by a longshot, none of the guys I voted for have been. But if i waited for the perfect guy or gal to come along, I'd never vote.

Bush is likable guy, as honest or more honest than most people I know, and has good people around him. I dont agree with everything he wants to do, but like I said above, I dont think that will ever happen.

You know how I feel about Gore and most of his programs.

Now if you mix some of the candidates together and had something like this:
Bush's likability and honesty and caring
Greenspan's fiscal responsibilty
Gore's fast wit without being a jerk
A tax cut for everybody similar to Bush's, but with more of the money going to the poor. I would like to see it where an increasing number of the people at the lower income pay no taxes while everybody else pays less.
A military that has enough equipment, training and morale to scare the hell out of anybody that would dare threaten the US or it's allies.
Bush's SS plan, with more details and/or a plan to make SS self suficient through investment of the SS money. We need to get away from the "I pay for my parents" version of SS we have now.
Bush's version of medicare, drug coverage plus choices of PPO's and HMO's in addition to straight medicare.
Free innoculations for every person in the US, so that we cut down on health issue and costs.
Protection of second amendment rights, and protection for all poeple from criminals.
Somebody willing to improve education through menas other than just throwing money at the problem, since we know that doesnt work, i want other ideas tried until we find one that does.

So there you go.....
