Their food is so, so good. Their regular battered fried fish is better than any other I've had in my life. HOWEVER, look up the nutritional info on it. It is HORRIBLE, particularly the trans-fats, which are far, FAR higher than any other fast food or other restaurant that exists.

Apparently it is just because of the oil they use. They could just start using a different oil like other fast food places and it would come down to be in line with the industry.

Will you please write them like I did and request that they change their oil? I doubt the taste would be materially affected, and even if it was I'd take that to be able to eat there without having to worry about not making it out alive!

Thanks so much guys.

They would change their oil and the food would taste different, guaranteed. Then you would complain how they changed their recipe and ask us to write them to complain.

Here's a thought: Decide whether taste or trans-fats are more important to you. Then make a choice. No one is forcing you to eat there.

LJS is one of the worse "fast food fish" places I've ever been to.

Definitely this. The local KFC's all changed their oil a few years back to some kind of "non-trans fat" gunk...and their chicken is now HORRIBLE and bad tasting. (not that KFC was ever great...but it's much worse since the change in oil.)

Its a 2-3x a year type of food to begin with. Don't change a thing. I had it this weekend for the first time in years and it was so good. The malt vinegar cuts the fat and helps it slide down the throat.

How about not eating fried food every day so the rest of us can enjoy tasty food occasionally like god intended.

#everythinginmoderation

Edit: I just wrote them and asked if they can wrap the fish in bacon before it's battered and deep fried. :p

I used to love their fish, hushpuppies and the coleslaw. We don't really have any around here anymore. Shortly before they went away the quality of the food went down quite a bit, but I assumed that was a local issue.

Occasionally miss it....I know it is bad for you and not considered 'quality' but something about the breading was great.

I think they already changed their oil a couple years ago, I seem to remember my kid talking about it (she worked there for a while).

I had to think hard to come up with a national fast food chain worse than Long John Silver's. The only one I could think of was Der Wienerschnitzel. I'm pretty sure an oil change isn't going to help.

Runza
Hardees/Carl's JR (close but a bit worse)
Taco Tico
Church's Chicken (stores are always so dirty)

I thought restaurants are banned in the US from using trans fats? Maybe that's only CA

Carl's Jr/Hardee's probably has the best food for a national chain. McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, are far below Carl's/Hardee's.

Never heard of Taco Tico and we don't have Church's Chicken here, but the Runzas I've been to have been good. The slummier Hardee's still have decent food but look about as slummy as you'd expect, the ones in nicer areas are nicer.

Trying to get the AT effect going?

Forget the oil, they should go all baked.

On a more serious note, I haven't been to one in over 20 years, and every time I drive past one, I only see a couple of cars.

So, how are they staying in business anyway?
