I've always loved to cook, and i cook for myself a lot, and many times for my girlfriend. If you really want to learn how to cook, and have cable, watch the food channel, i've just recently started watching it, and i've learned soo many new things, another place to check out is the food channel's web page, tons of info and tips. www.foodtv.com

good luck

I used to do most of the cooking until Smokey moved in. I learned to cook by spending a couple years working in the kitchen of a restaurant and helping my mom cook at home. My sister missed out on learning to cook from mom but mom more than made up for it with me. I still can't make cakes all that well but I do make a killer pumpkin pie with homemade pie dough.

Its not hard, it just takes some practice. More importantly, learn what you can and can't cook. I can't use the grill to save my life some days. I'm more of an oven and flat grill type.

Dude, here's the deal: To start with, buy a cookbook and follow the directions. The good ones will have definitions and tips in the front so if you don't know how to sauté verse sear it will tell you. They are usually written on a basic level (after all the target audience is women so you can't make it too complex) Look out here come the flames!! Just kidding, ladies.

After you've practice some, change the ingredients to suit your taste. Buy a good selection of dried herbs (NOT the smoking kind), and when you cook give each a smell. Does the smell compliment what you are cooking? Add a LITTLE, taste and adjust.

If you screw it up, start over or order out. Just start with enough time to use the backup plan if required.

If your apt. has a balcony or patio, get yourself a small BBQ or Hibachi. You can buy good marinades at the store until you are comfortable making your own. Another big plus for a bachelor is no major pots and pans to clean afterwards. Learn how to bake a potato and boil water for cooking whatever fresh vegetable is available.
BTW, most women enjoy cooking for men. It brings out the maternal instinct or something. Nurture that feeling and score double points in the sensitivity column.

If you're going to buy one cookbook, make it Escoffier "The Complete Guide to the Art of Modern Cookery" (from Amazon about $50.00). It has every receipe known to mankind that's worth the effort. The only cookbook you'll ever need 😉

50 bucks for a cook book?? Damn can't someone just teach me threw the forums or something? j/k thnx, me go pick up that book soon.🙂

Dam you we know how to cook that doen't mean we a gay😉

No, that's not what I was trying to say at all.

I like to cook too. In a condo of 3 guys, someone's gotta pick up the slack and eating out in the Bay Area gets *real* expensive

Following the directions in a cookbook is easy.

Believe me, if you can follow the directions in an ASUS (or ABIT for that matter) motherboard manual you can follow the directions for jambalaya, apple chicken, or spinach lasagne.

This website has a massive database of recipes and a good search engine to find them:

good luck.

Wakko, that's the least wacko thing I've ever read. I really enjoy cooking for other people because I get the compliments 😀. If I cook for myself, I just get to clean up the mess :frown:.

remedy: I have been working on writing a cookbook for over a year now. Actually still just compiling recipes. Its free and in digital format. But it is going to be only recipes for those living out of hotels (AKA Residence Inns and Extended Stay Americas) where you have a small kitchenette and very little in the way of spices and cookware. I've got about a dozen recipes I plan to add. I don't know if that will be of sufficient use for you but I can hook you up if you want some of them. Mostly things like Chicken and Potatoe Santa Fe and various Chili recipes.
