I use an Incipio Feather case for my 4S, i protects the back and the edges of the glass and makes it easier to hold (slightly tacky feel). No screen protector though.

I backed an aluminum bumper off kickstarter that I am in theory getting next month. Generally, I prefer my phones naked, but this looked really good.

Never used a case or screen protector on any of my phones. I just treat em right and never drop them or use them when drunk.

I'm a klutz. But I know it, so I find it's better to occasionally spend $50 on a protective case than $500 on a new smartphone.

I thought it was purely cosmetic and against scratches. Then I dropped it for the first time at shoulder height onto concrete (RIGHT TO A CORNER!!!) and my screen survived. /cross fingers.

I used an iPhone 4 for two years, and the difference between a bumper case and no-case was at least 1 AT&T bar in most places around San Francisco Bay Area. Now I use a Nexus phone without a case, but I might still get one because the phone is quite slippery without it. So as always, YMMV.

I have dropped my phone, repeatedly, in parking lots and on tile & wood floors. I'm about 99% sure it would be shattered by now if I didn't use a case.

Also it's much harder to hold without a case on so I'd drop it even more.

I use an Otterbox Commuter as well.

Typically, I'm happy enough to go naked. I carried my iPhone 4 naked for over two years. Every case, even bumper and slim line cases always made it feel too bulky to me.

But the iPhone 5 is way too thin. I tried a bumper case for a while and didn't like it. Then a slim line and that didn't work out. The Otterbox, surprsingly, felt really good, provides great protection, and gives the phone some much needed bulk. The major complaint I have about it is that ridiculous cutout on the back for the Apple logo. No one cares. I've started trying to look for some similar alternate cases that doesn't have the hole. And I'm thinking about cutting the rubber cover off the bottom that covers the lightning port.

Apparently I hold the phone the way Steve Jobs wanted me to because I never had attenuation issues with my original 4.

It was definitely there, but how much it affected you really depends on the coverage in your area. If I tried to force it, I could make it drop about 20db but t would never lose service.

Even the iphone 5 I can grab both antennas and bridge them to the metal in the middle of the body and make the service drop by about 5-6db.

Otterbox Defender on my iPhone, and it is a good thing too because I've dropped it on parking lots, hard floors, etc. The case is cracked but the phone is OK.
