Bateluer Yes, $40 is a good price but you can get brand new 256MB sticks from crucial right now for only $59. So the person who said, you can get 512MB for $150 was actually guessing a little high.

Do your research before you are such a jerk.

*pout* I have an Asus CUSL2 which has an i815 chipset. Nice board but max memory it can take is 512mb I have in it. Still more than that probably won't do much for me.
Now all I want is AMD's 32/64 bit chip to come out. No plans to upgrade till that's out.

Yeah, this is a hoot all right! This is like bragging because you drive a '99 Accord - perfectly nice but certainly nothing to write home about.

OMG, you built SEVERAL computers?????

1)Abit is dirt compared to IWILL or Asus
2)Creative is rebadged sh!t
3)512 is nothing
4)win98's sweet spot is 256MB, above that, only ps will get use of it
5)saying the word IBM does not mean your HDD is nice, infact lately it brings the word recall to mind...
6)What case do you have?
7)Nice one Russ;)
8)What cpu, hot shot?
9)What HSF?
10)what stepping is your cpu?
11)what week is your cpu?
12)do you even overclock?
13)Crucial is not the best ram, I swear by mosel vitalic/mushkin. Show me a stick of crucial pc133 that can do 157 all settings max
14)If i were you, i would quit while you are behind, you aren't making any new friends
15)Welcome to AnandTech Forums. I Hope you enjoy your stay;)

Lets get back to the memory thing...

Are you saying that 512 Megs of PC133 CRUCIAL running at Cas2 is better than 512 Megs of PC133 Generic running at Cas2 at the same speed?

I have to disagree.

Yeah, sorry, 512MB isn't all that impressive. I got 512MB of DDR from Crucial for $100, a couple weeks back when it was $49.98 for 256MB. Dunno what price it's at now, haven't checked.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand this?
Where I come from ps means power supply.

Ahhh, OK. I understand now. Thanks.

But I disagree with the statement that only Photoshop will can make use of more than 256. I've seen CAD benchmarks that say they require 512 MINIMUM: here

I've seen and read all the bad stuff about Abit on these boards for years and I still don't believe it.

Mine have been great.

Just got my first Asus, tho. After using the Abit softbios, the Asus seems like a PITA.

amish :)

yeah, as far as BIOSes are concerned, I don't think anyone could possibly find the ASUS softbioses to be superior to SoftMenu III.

Although motherboard wise, it's just the opposite. Very few abit boards lately have been up to par.

sorry about the odd acronym. Yes, CAD apps do use that extra memory. I am saying that windows deals with itself best when you have 256. That is just my expirience. I have 512 in my win2k machine. when i upgrade next i will drop in a gig.

eh, as far as i know, there isn't a good acronym for photoshop...

anyone have any ideas?

Personally, i shorten it by just calling it "PhoSho"... works for me! :D
